Such a cozy, lovely video. Quite old, I wonder if there are new ones. Now I fancy some tea as well! Katie's illustrating style is a bit like Christian Robinson's, I love both of your moody, autumnal palettes.

This has been very helpful from both perspectives as writer and illustrator. I loved it when Katie shared the illustration process on what worked and what did not. The quote from Holly Exley was spot on!

Loved this video! It’s always interesting hearing about how things came to be. Those ‘behind the scenes’ sketches & paintings were fantastic. I love Katie’s style. They suit Franklin so well!

Honestly, the first time she drew Franklin and sent the sample drawing to me, I had a little cry ❤️ x

Thank you for this lovely interesting video. I indie publish my picture books because I love being part of the whole process. Your video reminded me how much I love collaborating with my book designer (& illustrator on the first book, I illustrated the second one myself!) & how much fun it is seeing how the projects evolve between us. Also loved what you said about rhyme and surprising children. Thank you for sharing your insights x

Jen and Katie together the day just got better ! Like the twin look coveralls. Oh good fellow mug collectors. Somehow im thinking your in katies flat, house, studio. Limit your self with dounuts. But its so hard. Honestly saying dounuts in my presence is like saying squirrel to the dogs in UP. Yeah whiplash. Im so glad that youve both brought Franklin and Luna to life. Jen the next time you go to japan you try and get a master calligrapher to paint the first lines of Franklin for . Oh well future Christmas. Im getting silly must get breakfast. Oh I'm way out of the Franklin age group and i dont care.

How much does it cost for the average illustrator for the average picture book? (800 words or so)
@jenvcampbell4 жыл бұрын
That’s not how it works if you’re going down the traditional publishing route. You don’t pay the illustrator, your publisher does. Either a one off fee or an advance and royalty split along with you.

Hello Jen & Katie, this question is for Katie. You talked about graduating, where and what did you study? I love to draw and i love art, i would be really interested in studying along this line and to study something for fun that i enjoy. I am a nurse, so a creative outlet would be a great thing for me and something that is different from normal art classes. could you make any recommendations? Education, courses, degrees? Also what medium do you illistrate with? Pen, pencil, paint? Any chance you could do a video on you artistic process? Or do you have your own channel? Thank you so much for your help, ( if you get to replying this message). I am sorry for the million and one questions. Jen & Katie, I loved this video. I collect children's books and beautifully illustrated books, this was such a fantastic video for me, i loved it and all of your videos. THANK YOU AGAIN, JADE XX

Hi Jen, I can't seem to get the 'send me an email' link to work on your website.. so this seemed to be the best way of making preliminary contact with you. I am a primary school teacher and was hoping to ask you about the school workshops you run. Our theme is currently dragons so Franklin has been a big hit! Thanks, Hannah

I am about to collaborate with an author and was wondering how you and Katie work out the profits to pay your selves. Do you go 50/50 etc
@jenvcampbell5 жыл бұрын
Every situation is different and depends on workload etc but in this instance, yes, Katie and I are paid 50/50 by the publisher.
