This is really secure. Add in a true random key that you only use once and it becomes a one-time pad, which is unbreakable. All the computing in the world and you can't crack a code you can make by hand with some dice and a pen.
@samueljackson61882 жыл бұрын
Faster way is to use mod 26. So if the number is a positive number greater than 26. Then you subtract 26. To get you text letter. Then the inverse for a negative number.

I think it's standard to have A represent 1 shift instead of 0. Having a 0 shift adds unnecessary vulnerability
@BuzzyMartin6 жыл бұрын
A lot of the sites I looked at said it was 0, but I guess this is just tradition. It would definitely make much more sense to have A as 1 :)
@murk1e4 жыл бұрын
No, if you do that, Z is 'no shift'. There is always a 'no shift'. Indeed, never encrypting a letter as itself is a weakness (and one severe enough that it allowed the enigma machine to be cracked.... Of course, cracking Vig is much easier than enigma!)

its fairly simple, but i can understand how it can be confusing. im going to use the videos example SEND MEDICINE each letter is represented by a number. A=0 B=1 ect. ect. this cipher uses a code word, such as CART. the letters for those are 2 0 17 19. to encode the message SEND MEDICINE, write a number under each letter. 2 under S, 0 under E, 17 under N, 19 under D. continue that pattern, until each letter of the phrase you want to encode has a number under it. to encode, you shift the letters to the right based on the number underneath. if 2 is under S, shift it over 2 letters, making it U. E is 0, shift it over 0, keeping it at E. do the same with the rest of the letters you want to encode. the first word, SEND, turns into UEEW. the second word, MEDICINE, turns into OEUBEIEX SEND MEDICINE==UEEW OEUBEIEX to decode, simply shift the letters to the left using the same code from before. CART 2 0 17 19 i hope this was of some help! (edit: i made a mistake in typing. its fixed now!)

It literally shows the count starts at zero. Usually this is because zero is a number itself.
