I was afraid i will have to spend hours watching many videos on KZbin to get into this but damn… You gave me full content I would expect from 4/5 videos and after 25 minutes I can tell that I fully trust You that this material is enough to guide me to make my portfolio the best way. I cannot find words that would express how thankful I am. I hope you find satisfaction on what you doing for us.🤗

Hi. Sharon, I just would like to shout out as an also career shift person who is struggling to get a job in UX field in the new country with no experience. Although I have design background, it is still hard for me. But your content is very informative and, more than that, inspiring. You know exactly what the users(like me) would love to hear, and you did it in a very structured way with considerate details. Thank you for your contents. They motivate to go back and redesign my case study and portfolio after a very long procrastination. Keep going.

This is the best video talking on this subject that I've seen. I've spent SO long dabbling in different videos, trying to get my head wrapped around this in a way that made it simplified. You've made it easy, straightforward, given me permission to just braindump my thoughts initially without much structure and THEN work through and organize it (I don't know why I beat myself up for being unorganized at first). It no longer feels so overwhelming and stressful. Thank you SO much for breaking it down like this, and also keeping it below 30 minutes!

I really like how you pointed out that while the angled iPhone screen images can be aesthetically pleasing, they're not the most practical for potential companies to clearly see the UI designs you want to show. I've always thought that it wasn't very practical when I look at portfolios and case studies on Dribble. Good example of looks pretty but not super practical.

I agree with the personas versus use cases. I've also worked with teams that forget about these artifacts once created. It can be frustrating when teams neglect to revisit the personas created, resulting in wasted time, money, and resources. And of course, teams differ in their preferred approaches. The primary goal should be to create deliverables that facilitate understanding and empathy towards users. Without reference, the exercise becomes pointless. The focus should be on maximizing user satisfaction and delivering valuable solutions. I always say...team dynamics also play a SIGNIFICANT role in achieving these objectives.

Sharon do you need coding skills to make this squarespace website? I have 0 zero knowledge

You don’t need to know how to code at all! Although in general knowing how to code is useful in general and I WOULD recommend learning it- even if it’s just the basics

For the visual slides you made in figma with the app images and text blocks with the colored backgrounds you used to make those sections of the case study more visually appealing and stand out… how do they scale when viewed on a mobile device? I tried doing the same thing but when inserting those figma files as jpegs/pngs Squarespace isn’t able to scale them properly since they’re one whole image. Often some of the text or image will be cropped out or not be able to be centered properly. Do you not account for responsive mobile scaling? If you have a fix for this please let me know

Hey! Not too sure what you mean but I did primarily focus it for the web experience- so I see how the experience wouldn’t be as ideal on mobile. If I were you, perhaps I’d play more with the cropping of the JPEG so they can fit better both web and mobile…

@@sharonyeunkim hey thanks so much for the reply. What you suggest makes sense and is helpful. I was having a hard time trying to get what looks good on a desktop/web to also work on a mobile. If I had an image/logo that looked great on when viewing on a desktop, it would get cropped weirdly when being scaled down for a mobile phone & if the image had any text or vectors graphics things would become cropped out of the frame or too small to read. Shrinking and cropping images down to a size where they will still scale properly seems like the way to go and I noticed from you figma files you did the same thing and used an iPad frame size from figma to create your visuals which seems to scale down uniformly. I tried viewing your portfolio website on my phone and noticed everything scaled down properly and stuff that was too small to read can be enlarged by pinch to zoom so I’ll go ahead and try the same approach as you did. Thanks for making the video you did and linking all the helpful figma files in your portfolio. You did a great job and have one of the most helpful videos out there. Keep up the great work!

how do you get the figma prototype to show up? I got paywalled earlier when I tried to do it on squarespace.

Hey Sharon! So I'm in a UI bootcamp, where we had a focus in UX but UI was the primary focus for one of my case study projects. Would you say that my presentation should focus more on my style guide, colors and typography? (while still including UX?) I hope that made sense!

You are def right to focus on visuals as a more UI designer.
