How to Write the Perfect Essay

Writing the perfect essay is like drawing the perfect circle. Meaning that no matter what you do you'll always end up with a zero? No, meaning it's impossible, but with the right tools, you can get pretty darn close.
You guys requested it, so I thought I'd share some of my best tips and tricks for writing essays. I've been writing essays for almost two decades now, so this video is a long one. Strap yourself in and get ready, 'cause this is about to be a ride.
Also, the first essay format I give you comes from my French education on writing essays (i.e. start with a question, develop your ideas, answer the question, open essay up to new question).
The second essay format I give you comes from my American education on writing essays (i.e. state a thesis, argue your thesis, restate your thesis).
I'm partial to the French way of writing essays, because I think it makes more sense for life (i.e. you have a question you want to answer, you try to answer it, when you do you move on...). However, the American way of writing essays can be helpful for trying to argue a point. Write the way that you think will best suit you in your given circumstance!

Outline for My Harvard Essay:
Paragraph 1 -
**Introduces question: Am I an oxymoron?
**Introduces context: I am a product of my environment (unsaid: I am about to explain my environment).
Paragraph 2 -
**Develops idea of life as a contradiction: Contrast siblings' age with mine, contrast exposure to maturity with childish enthusiasm.
Paragraph 3 -
**Develops idea of life as a contradiction: The gap between the contrasts seems to close as I get older, but a different gap emerges--that between my normal school life and my art classes.
Paragraph 4 -
**Develops idea of life as a contradiction: Art class is my exploration of another side of life.
Paragraph 5 -
**Develops idea of life as a contradiction: This "other side of life" has inspired me create simply for my own pleasure. This mindset has seeped into other areas of my life.
Paragraph 6 -
**Develops idea of life as a contradiction: A dream of mine is to create a charter school--this dream stemmed from my exposure to academic life. Seemingly unrelated, art nonetheless has been crucial in helping me understand how to make that dream a reality.
Paragraph 7 -
**Summarizes essay: "My world consists of math books and track meets, it's the wonders of a painting class and the parenting of siblings..."
**Answers question: Some might think my life is an oxymoron, I call it balanced.

That's so awesome! I went to college right out of high school and I loved it but then my mom got terminally ill and I gave up my studies to take care of her and I later went back to University in my early 30s and got my degree in education and graduated Suma Cum Laude, walking across that stage was the greatest day of my life! I actually hated timing writings--I thought they focused way too much on the main points and not enough on creativity. For timed writings, my advice to you would be to focus hardcore on essay structure, and don't worry about using beautiful language. Work on making things clear and concise.

I found that structure was a huge help in writing. Once you have your structure it is easy to hang your ideas in the right places. Different structures can be used for different purposes. Defining your structure can help a lot with writer's block also.

since you've recognized that it's a weakness, practice. find out exactly what examiners want you to achieve and keep those criteria in mind as you answer a question. increase your vocabulary and practice using more complex words a little when writing, slowly moving up to manipulating the English language to answer the question in a meaningful way while showcasing the depth of your thoughts. practice finishing those tests quicker than the allotted time, and even be aware of the speed of your handwriting, because writing faster will help. find a technique that will help you 'hit the most points in one go'. One of the biggest mistakes I made in essay writing was that I was too random, so I couldn't get the consistent results I desired. finally, remember to work on your essay's cohesion, because I think you definitely start to lose legitimacy when your ideas don't feel connected to your main ideas. I know it's intimidating as heck, but just do it, because the last thing you want to do in a situation where an essay like this is required is waste time.

It's "you're"....and you don't practice BECAUSE you're perfect, you practice the flaws and mistakes out of whatever you're practicing so that you can BECOME perfect.

This isn't always true though. In things like working out, yes, you want to practice it perfectly because if you use incorrect form you can seriously injure yourself. But for things like essay writing you often get feedback and sources you can use to improve. And some things you only learn by making mistakes.

Listen, your middle school (and elementary) grades don't matter AT ALL... Once you enter high school, everything gets wiped clean. Middle school is the time to prep your mind and motivate yourself to be determined to do well in high school. Don't fret too much in middle school, take that time to enjoy your pre-teen/early teen life. Really, working veryyy hard in middle school is a waste of time. Ready yourself for high school by making sure you'll get into good honors classes in high school and then put all your hard work there. Good luck :)

What's the topic your writing about--I could give some ideas. If you're not writing about anything and just wondering how to do this for any, do this: 1. Think about what your topic is, what you want the reader to take from your paper, the mood of your essay; etc. 2. By thinking about all these things, try to write an opening sentence that shows the mood of your paper (this goes along with what the reader should take away from it) and covers the topic. It should introduce it in a way that sort of hangs off, if you know what I mean; don't give all the information, but give enough for the reader to be interested and want to read more. I'll give an example. There's many different essays, but I'll just be using a problem/solution. Topic: PTSD in veterans. Mood: Sad Possible first sentence (not the thesis): Not many have thought about the ear-splitting gunshots, the dark red blood or the mourning of families, yet it happens to many brave military personnel, risking their lives for their nation and receiving little in return.

Interesting that you would ask HER. My opinion is that it was the greatest election ever, and two years later, still happy. (and I didn't even vote for President Trump.) He's doing a wonderful job and people need to jump on board if they want to be a part of that success.

It’s also helpful to make a title after you finish the essay. Because then you can find a word or phrase that summarizes it better
