Hi writerly besties! Do you feel a little scared about writing and finishing that first draft? Well, I got you! In today's episode I talk about the best and most positive approach to writing your very first draft of you book. I talk about the possibilities of gaining new ideas through free writing, but also the dangers of loosing faith and giving up in the second half of your book. It truly is a journey, and I hope I can help you through it!

Your first draft does not have to be perfect!!! The first time I wrote the story I am writing now, it was awful. There was no pacing, no structure, plot holes left and right. This is, like, my third attempt writing this book and I really feel like I can publish it this time! I already have a cover designed and everything. Wish me luck!

@@maaretrahkonen7706 I have finished the first draft! I'm on my way with the second and then down to editing to smooth things out... I am dreading that. Good luck with your story, though! I'm sure it'll sell a lot!

my first draft of nightwalkers was so different from what it is now. it even had a different title, yet it set the basic story and plot lines. because of the first draft I could think about the world more and what didn't work, in that way, I puzzle the world of nightwalkers together, bit by bit every day.

I have been hoping to get back to writing more this year again but life just happened and i haven't drafted much of my new project TP so far. I am in the editing phases with one of my standalone projects called V with the help of an editor, but it's taking time and i am procrastinating on my side of the editing sooooo i might as well work on a new/old 1st draft I am working on and off 😆

Remember the times her old channels name was KittyCatLoom and she would film rainbow loom videos? Those were the good times. Even though I miss those times, I’m glad that you found another passion and changing your style :)

Here is another sentence from my manuscript :D As we were leaving the room we heard a loud bang through the door. I came down to answer the door as the door slowly eased by using the force of my hand. There was a man that looked similar to me. He has a briefcase in his left hand. He handed over the briefcase to me as the door slowly closed and I looked down at the wide briefcase. Ellen and Cayden stepped over to me while the other two were looking down at the door.

you say for the end that you hate the saying that your first draft will suck because it implies that your idea was not good. or maybe that you were not good enough to pull it off. i disagree. first drafts are trainwrecks usually. but it's an important stepping stone in my mind. if you are juggling all these things for the rough draft, sure, you could be mozart, some artistic savant. or you could built a shed. it's crap. you build a hut. it's crap. you build a cottage. it's crap but it's not a shed. ... you can bang out a rough draft, knowing this, and then shelve it for later when you can read it fresh. i mean, ideally, you want to write books that you like to read, right? you are the quality check. lots of writers don't love doing rough drafts or editing. but not everyone gets to make it to the olympics. the sweat that you put in for an obsession that others don't understand are you mushing that dog sled through the frontiers of your imagination. yeah. totally disagree on that point. and chatgpt can help you for plotting. it can help do a lot of heavy lifting as you learn how to prompt it better and understand what its limits are. i think if you got the hang of it, you would be able to clean up a lot of those rough drafts.
