A few years back I watched a Navy SEAL take a brand new rifle out of the box, mount a scope and then separate the stock and action. He sat in a folding chair, propped his feet on a stool and looked through the barrel then through the scope. He did this for about 1/2 hour then remounted the action and stock. His first shot hit the 10 ring. "Not too bad" he said. (I have to agree)

Thank you for including the part about moving your entire rifle for the next shot. I've seen so many videos and read articles about this method and they'll all say, aim at the bullseye but make no mention about moving the rifle. Logically, I knew the only way to get your dot, reticle back to the bullseye is to move the rifle, but so many fail to state it. Good job.

I just take a two shot group first like you. Than I measuring the distence between point of aim and point of impact in mm by my tape line. Once I know the distance I know how many click is it for my scope. I tried your method also but mine is works better to me. The point is the same I just don't need a ''nuke resist platform'' to make sure my rifle do not move while I adjust the scope :)Normally my 4th shot is just a make sure third almost always hit the dead center. If not, than no more than 3 or 4 click is required.

I think the trickest part will be moving the reticle to the point of impact without moving your rifle if you don't have the vice. Even if you are using a backpack to stabilize the rifle, it'll still be challenging.

To avoid wasting first shots not on paper, bore sight your rifle with your naked eye... Bring your optic to where your barrel is exactly looking and start from there.

I have a target I printed that let's you zero from 10 yards in the house. It was created using some math that I do not understand. Used with a laser bore sight, there's a grey circle you line the bore sight to, and a black circle approx. 2.9 inches higher that you line up your red dot, reticle, etc. Supposedly this will give you a 50/200 yard zero. I'm going to try it. Even if it gets me fairly close on paper, I can then use the method in this video to get right on target.

I know this is an old video BUT!! There are 2 schools of thought on how to adjust your Red Dot (AR-15). I've seen videos that says to shoot, then adjust where you want POI. Other videos saying shoot and adjust RED DOT to equal the POI group. Who's correct?

There is another way sir use a tape measure, at 100 yards 1/4 inch click 4 clicks is one inch so if you shooting dead center of the target and let's say you shooting 5 inches low of dead center and five inches left of dead center do the math remember 4 clicks is 1 inch I recommend bore sighting first I have done this with two shots 👍

I dont understand and I completely confused. Aimed at dead center. Fired twice. Impact was 4 inch off the rigjt up. Than I done exactly what you said (aim center, fire, bring back reticle to center, move your reticle with clicks X,Y to the impact point. Rifle was firmly stucked in the rest/shooting table. Result is: now I am double off the center. 8 inch, not 4 anymore instead in bullseye. Buddy told me that I have to count and measure clicks and have to bring reticle into opposite side 🤔🤔 Scope is Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 with 1/4 MOA. Drad hold reticle. Please help?
@TheWilferch
@TheWilferch 2 жыл бұрын
If you're double distance "off" after you made the adjustments...then you did NOT follow the directions. MANY people make this mistake. You need to be absolutely certain rifle is "Stable" on the first shot. Now, the trick....KEEP IT THERE. WATCH THE RETICLE MOVE AS YOU ADJUST the reticle to match the previous holes. If you DON"T watch the reticle move as you adjust....and instead go look at the knob where it tells you ( for example) to rotate the turret counterclockwise for UP, etc, and use THAT as a guide, you will adjust in the OPPOSITE direction as intended. So.....if your shots were up/right from bullseye aim.....you probably rotated the elevation turret clockwise, thinking you're going down for the correction.. WRONG. Don't look at the arrow direction of the turret.....follow the instructions....look THROUGH the scope and *chase the reticle* to match where the *prior bullet holes* are. If you instead look at the turret arrows, it is BACKWARDS, and if you were 4" high off, you now corrected in the opposite direction and are now 8" high off.....being 2x "off" is the hint you did this. The reason is much the same as for pistol iron sights. You move the rear sight IN THE DIRECTION you want the correction to go.......you move the FRONT sight in the OPPOSITE direction you want the correction to go. The reticle on a scope acts like a pistol front sight. Hope this helps. Do the same when correcting for windage....fire...see where it hits.... DON'T LOOK AT THE TURRET...but instead keep looking thru the scope and adjust the reticle to match the holes. THEN ...and only then.....re-position the rifle and reshoot to check. Cheers.

Not meaning to prove you wrong or put you on blast but are going to be shooting out of a gun vise at a 3 gun comp.? You could shoot out of a vise in the woods, or at the range but most of your shots will be off hand. Why would you sight your gun in for a VISE and not for YOU? Again not to disprove your techniques but that's how I see it.

Yea no buddy thats not how it works, you want to make sure your optic is completely zeroed to the rifle not to the shooter as you're saying, you what to make sure if you put that crosshair on something it hits where you aim and if you're shaking or anything while sighting in, that doesnt work.
