OMG..this movie is so good. Hats off to Ethan Hawke for playing a child killer.. I wonder what it was like back in the 70s not being able to have a cell phone to call for help.. this movie was most disturbing than terrifying. but the way Ethan Hawke played the " the grabber" now that was terrifying and frightening in itself.

It figures Tom Savini made that mask. The only other guys that were or on his level are Rick Baker, Greg Nicotero, and Stan Winston✝️ (RIP)

Dude , how can you forget Dick Smith?! The man was a mentor and inspiration to all of those SFX artists. "A lot of the stuff that he(Savini) did, he was calling Dick Smith all the time and getting suggestions and ideas from Dick about how to execute things. And, honestly, I do think that that was one of the things that led to Dick Smith releasing his makeup effects Bible to potential students because everybody was so inspired by Dick that they would utilize his recipes for gelatin and his recipes for blood. Tom had a binder of pamphlets that Dick Smith had sent him in terms of how to make this material and how to make that material and how to make a material called "Elvacite," which was like this plastic material that you could actually pump blood through, so that you could do very, very thin prosthetics. Even in Dawn of the Dead, Tom had done a lot of gags like Dick had done in The Godfather where he had used morticians wax and buttons with monofilament on it. So you'd pull the monofilament off and it would reveal the bullet hole in the head. Tom was really not only a student of magic and a student of trickery, but he was really in awe of Dick Smith. And Dick was such a generous artist that he, a lot of times, shared a l"ot of his techniques with other people, like Rick Baker and like Tom and a lot of us makeup artists."

Is this the same guy who made bray Wyatt’s masks?

He collaborated on The Fiend's mask with Jason Baker (I think), with this movie in particular being used as a base for the first version of Uncle Howdy's mask

The movie takes place in the same era as the Lovely Bones, which takes place during 1973, the fact that a lot of kidnapping movies takes place during the 70s says a lot.
