Along with being a leitmotif, the ball acts as a narrative tool to represent Johnny's reliance on Mark as a friend, and vice versa. By constantly tossing the ball among each others, they signify their reliance and trust on the other to catch the ball. By the end, with his best friend Johnny's death, Mark no longer has anyone to toss the ball to (i.e. no longer has anyone to rely on as his friend). Beautiful movie, so much hidden details by the brilliant Mr. Tommy Wiseau.

It's a joke but the blocking is actually ok in this movie. The cinematography is good too. He obviously had a very good DP. The acting isn't that bad either (with the exception of Wiseau), it's just the directing is terrible. You can tell that the supporting cast just turned up and tried what they rehearsed themselves and Wiseau didn't adjust it properly. Most of the jokes about this movie are based on the total lack of flow between any of the characters/lines. What makes it all funny for me is that the writer, director and lead actor completely destroyed his own movie just by being a part of it, but had he done a good job it would have been a forgettable TV movie that no-one would be talking about now.

Nerdwriter1 has to see this. It's the most savage thing I've ever seen but it's also hilarious how much actual decent blocking and direction is in this shit film. If the actors could act and the dialogue was written to mimic human speech, this might not be a steaming pile. Tommy Wiseau is like a transdimensional being. There's something there but it's completely off-kilter.

I'd like to remake and direct The Room as a play. The story has potential, the main concept is strong, it's just very weak with screenwriting and acting
@8bitdiedie7 жыл бұрын
A friend of mine (who never watched the Room) from my theatre class told me he saw this weird play at a festival once. He said it was about a man with a weird accent who got cheated on by his girlfriend who kept sleeping with his best friend. He mentioned that the acting and dialogue was really crap to the point of making it laughably bad and that there were all these weird props (american footballs, photos frames with spoons etc.) used throughout. I asked him if it was The Room and he said "yeah, that's the name". I explained to him about the movie and it's legacy and it turned out some theatre company were recreating the movie as a play in a tongue-in-cheek way. But before explaining that he was under the impression that it might've been a decent play ruined by crap acting, odd prop choices and actors improvising lines they forgot.
@DiegoRuiz19917 жыл бұрын
8bitdiedie I meant remaking it as a good or at least decent play, it can be good if done properly.
@8bitdiedie7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's what I meant. My friend actually thought that it was a good play at it's core that was simply ruined by bad execution, so it goes to show it has potential in it.

@emmastrange55577 жыл бұрын
The Room had quite a few talented people working on it so some of what he's describing is real and intentional. That's what makes The Room such a great watch, it had a budget of six million dollars, yet the script doesn't even make any sense (which is made even more odd by the fact that it's the most simple story imaginable). It had a full crew including Hollywood veterans, yet the main actor can barely speak English. It had Hollywood tier camera's and equipment, yet they couldn't even get a roof top to look like a roof top. It's an amazing film because it's so consistently inconsistent.

I know people are saying this is a parody, but some of the points made in this video (even if he's mocking things), is actually correct. As much shit as we give Tommy, it shows that he is at least a little bit competent. Like when Mark gets up after Johnny puts him on the spot to evade the question. Yeah, obviously you can "read too much" into anything. And I get the joke here is that, the film is god awful, so it's acting like the film is actually "deep". It's obviously not. But I actually do think some of the things Wisseau did in the scene, shows he has somewhat of an understanding (or whoever he had working the camera).
@Assimandeli6 жыл бұрын
Notice how Johnny and Denny are more on the same wavelength than Johnny and Mark; with neither one taking the top position over the other, while Johnny's and Mark's conversation was almost a battle over dominance. It should also be noted that Mark and Denny are both after the same thing, but Denny was honest about it and thus maintained a good relationship with Johnny. Mark was dishonest and in the end he lost everything because of it.
@nmrfilms7 жыл бұрын
Interesting. The first rooftop scene, where Denny is confronted about his drug use, is another great scene to look at. We see the six main characters, all together, and the way Wiseau chooses to block them is astounding. Anyone with an interest in ensemble staging should take a careful look at that scene.
@ThisGuyEdits7 жыл бұрын
that is another classic scene. I wonder daily what kind of drugs Danny bought.

This movie is a masterpiece and breaks the Hollywood convention system on what is deemed "good". We've been told our whole lives that actors have to be "believable", and a story must be "thought out", or "make sense" to be good. Honestly, this movie is so good it makes American Classics like "Gone with the Wind", and "Casablanca" look like "Beverly Hills Chihuahua". Well done Mr. Wiseau....well done...

I'm glad the empty bottle is included in the scene blocking animation too, as much like all components of a Wiseau scene, it's very important to the deeper subtexts of the narrative. The water bottle is empty, much like Johnny's own self esteem, and is thrown away with a sense of utter despair and dissolution. Water is universally understood to represent purity and life. When Johnny throws it away with such intensity and confusion, the viewer gets a real sense of Johnny's inner struggle. It's as though Lisa has forced Johnny to discard his own purity, and throw away any remaining self respect... And of course it's an early hint at how this remarkable story unfolds in later acts. True genius is expressed with subtlety, and Wiseau knows how to subconsciously draw the viewer in. Great video, I loved it :-)

I don't know if this is supposed to be a satirical analysis or a serious analysis. Jesus the language is on point!

Wiseau is the master of blocking, a natural with emotions and a poet with the frame... Praise be Wiseau......

You didn't really mention this but I just noticed that with Danny coming into the scene, Johnny just revealed that he would be totally cool had Marc opened up about at least his attraction to Lisa. Like you said, Tommy shows himself through this scene which seems to (in this instance) be an evolved & mature point of view when it comes to a love triangle in this case; as opposed to a typical, emotionally charged and offended approach that manifests itself later in the film regardless, because Marc decides to lie and sabotage their friendship which was wrong. Just a thought!

this is actually pretty awesome. when you show the audience who only saw the bad acting, that Tommy was a good editor.

This is a perfect parody of all theses youtube channels trying to break down every other movie out there- and presenting the info as if they're the first people ever to think about how a film is made haha!
