Don't 2nd guess yourself!!! In this video we're talking about how to make better reads, and how to get more "50/50" scenarios right when you're playing pokemon. Enjoy!

Good video, thanks. I've seen a lot of comments like "If it's not 100%, then it's always 50/50 regardless" as if there were only two options to pick from, which isn't the case.

I just can't get past the fact that 35% rock, 29% paper, and 26% scissor only adds up to 90%, what are the other 10% of players playing????

you can also use intuition to assimilate and synthesize complexity, sometimes the game is just too complex and your sub-conscious mind has a better understanding of it than your conscious mind does (and maybe you don't have enough time too).

I play a lot of Random Monotype battles on Showdown, I was in the top 50 back in gen7, and even now have an above 60% win rate (which is pretty glld given how random that particular mode is). What I tend to do is to play to not lose at the start of a game or when I have an advantage. I ask myself what the worst case scenario is. Defensive play is important because random teams means no preview, and you have to gather information first. The second half is recognizing your win conditions and opportunities. You have a bug team vs a rock team, but you also have two butterflies with quiver dance. Use one to bait, giving them a false sense of security, and find a moment to bring in the second, especially if you have gigadrain or something similar. Also never give up a match where you still have options. if you are staring down a +6 Espeed user, yeah forfeit if you have only low hp mons. But if you have any shot, play it out.

Don't think, feeeel. - Bruce Lee I don't play VGC a lot but I had a Sword and Shiels match where I, just one hundred percent, knew what to do. I'd never seen a team like this, but I knew what my first play needed to be when the Pokemon first hit the field. Detect on my Urshifu, and Moonblast the Regidrago. When my opponent's Drago went down, he cancelled the match immediately. It felt pretty good.

Im shook to hear rock is most common. I always felt like scissors was most common because its the last thing you say.

Funnily enough this is why rock is best

I learned it depended on someones mood. I tested it by loosening up and making my little sister happy/comfortable for paper, then getting serious with my cousin for rock. It worked but I assumed it did heighten the chance. Regardless everything is still randomized and there's a chance that nothing will go your way. I've had video games where someone would never fall for something then the one time I switched it up, they also switched up. Humans aren't robots but we still have methods

I think when u just say “ rock paper scissors “ without shoot people tend to use scissor because it’s the last thing your mind thinks but if shoot is added it changes

The Human Brain is the best general-purpose pattern-recognition engine yet created or discovered by Humans. (AI still tend to halucinate, or beat Humans in very specific scenarios, recognizing bread, recognizing cancer, crunching ridiculous numbers, etc.)

I'm a dislike, not because I didn't enjoy most of the video, but because the conclusion struck my soul. Intuition doesn't play nice with me- I'm often bad at reading people. Most times "your intuition is usually right" just feels like something people say based off of groundless intuition, which is the definition of circular reasoning. And if it is right, I fid my intuition to often be wrong. What seems natural to others often proves difficult for me, and that call to just ride on intuition hit me in the all of that. It might just be me, but the audio in this video is so quiet that it's hard to hear even at 100% audio on my computer, I only need 20-30% for most videos. It's still audible and on different machines it might even be easier, but I do think the video is quiet
@booradley683216 күн бұрын
Gonna ask you the same question i ask every youtuber: What does your camera add to the video? Does it help the viewer at all to see you, or is it actually a distraction that makes it harder to pay attention to what you're saying? Once we're past the intro, is it doing anything at all? if you have a reason to have it and can validate it to yourself, good. If you're doing it because "idk its what people on twitch look like" then it might be time for a change. I dont have the answer but you should always be asking yourself "why am I doing this?"

how do you handle “tera 50/50s” based on this mentality
@DaGGzu2 ай бұрын
will he tera into this earth power or stay the type that resists it
@IanHvgc2 ай бұрын
Tera situations like that are some of the closest things we have to actual coinflips right now. A lot of the time you just have to go with your gut and send it. Some tips: - They are less likely to tera if you have something that can pin the tera, even if it's not currently on the field. - They are less likely to tera the earlier the game is and more likely the more time has passed. Good players will generally try to hold on to their tera as long as possible unless they can decide the game immediately.

Don't you think there's also a good chance players like Wolfey consistently do well because of the fact that they are the best ones at avoiding situations where predicts are necessary? Of course predicting is always a thing in Pokémon, but I think what really makes a player great is the ability to avoid it as much as possible, because there are some situations when it actually does come down to luck. This is more of a singles example, but a 1v1 against a pokemon that has sucker punch (and can kill your pokemon with it) is basically a 50/50. You might even know what they other player plays like generally, but in situations like this one it's not uncommon for good players to just switch up what they usually do, so it ends up being as random as it can humanly be
@IanHvgcАй бұрын
@@nebulousnight Of course! The more you can avoid having to make reads, the better. But when both players are playing optimally, having to make reads is unavoidable. It's impossible to win a tournament without getting multiple reads correctly AND getting very lucky. The point of the video is that reads aren't always 100% luck, and your intuition is the *most* correct (not always correct) on read-based turns.
