The song reminds me of my best friend, basicslly a brother who lived with me for years after being abandoned by his father, who he never knew, then his mom went to jail for years, lived with his grandparents most his life. One night he got into an arguement with them and he went on a walk to cool off only to find the door locked and they wouldnt let him in. That day i said nuh uh fuck that you’re comin to live with me. Slept in the same room as me for years, knew each other like the back of our hands. Started callin my mom his mom. Finally felt like he was a part of a family who loved and cherished him. I Ended up getting kicked out of my house so he went with me. We lived couch hoppin for a few weeks and another homey took him in and had his own room and friends who adored him. Absolute one of a kind. They ended up moving so he went to live with his aunt n uncle who didnt allow drugs or alcohol and his uncle found a cans of four loco in his room and kicked him out that day. I put a down payment on a car for him so he atleast had transportation to drive where he needed to. He made up this story that he was moving to Florida to go work for his uncle and we all had this huge goodbye party for him and the night was just amazing. He left around midnight and i remember four of us were in his car all sayin our goodbyes. Tears here n there. I remember saying to him like bro this aint goodbye. Imma see you again and he had this look on his face that i’ll never forget but i couldnt quite figure out why he looked at me that way. 3:30 in the morning i get a group text from him sent to seven people. His closest people saying that he just cant do this life anymore and that he just wanted to give us the chance to say goodbye to him, he had made up his mind that he was going to take his life. Never had intentions of moving to florida. I remember calling him and calling the cops. He finally answered in the numbest voice ive ever heard from him. Begging him not to do it snd that he can live with me and i’ll do anything to keep him here. He told me where he was and that there was no stopping him. The last words he said to me was i love you bro, i’ll catch you later, and the phone never hung up and i was just callin his name. Eventually after like a minute i call the cops again trying to get them to go to where he was but unfortunately it was too late. He jumped off of a 100 foot bridge and died instantly. That look he gave me was the look of, no dude this IS goodbye. White light and cityscapes are songs that remind me of him. Sorry this was so long but i felt like sharing a story about him and how these songs bring me closer to him when i listen. “I said hello, and said goodbye, and i’ll see you again in the next life. Im trying im trying for you, dying im dying for you. And even when the nights grow cold, your memory reminds me to stay gold…”
