More folks need to hear this, especially those who've experienced trauma.🙏 I just talked to my pastor about a traumatic event from 16 years ago. My pastor listened and basically agreed with van der Kolk. My body reminded me. The body remembers, and changes the person forever. Body, mind, and soul. Thank you for this Chris. 🙏🙏

If you're somebody who enjoys learning about how the body keeps the score, then I strongly recommend you progress deeper into somatic therapy literature with teachers like Peter Levine, Arthur Janov and Alexander Lowen. Their collected work is a significant level-up on the self development journey, and I try to suggest their books on my channel as often as I can. I just recommended 10 somatic therapy books in my latest video, including the body keeps the score coincidentally enough. Great to see these conversations getting further into the mainstream - cheers Chris!

It's good to break the myth that we can *control* our reactions. We can somewhat control our behavior, but not reactions.

Gravity hurts. If I think the ground will wound me deeply, I will always be scared of falling. Unfortunately, I do not control gravity. I did not make the ground and I was not originally scared of the ground. Yes, I would like to maintain even a veneer of control. But I can only if I keep it starkly in my mind, how it is just a veneer. There are plenty of fun things I can do because gravity, but also require falling...

From what I know of this man’s work and perspective, he is largely responsible for the liquidation of the concept of ‘trauma’. Trauma, in the psychiatric sense, has a strict definition as that which produced a PTSD reaction, however with these new age trauma theorists such as Kolk trauma has come to mean anything that was slightly difficult or emotionally valent, which then contributes to individuals removing the level of responsibility they have for their lives.

From My Name is Earl: "Whoever said laughter is the best medicine didn't had gonorrhea." This guys advice can ONLY work when a person really is in no danger. Ignoring people and situations that maul the survivors with trauma is terrible advice. Money opens up better options in life. Spending $300 per hour on someone trying to keep extracting $300 per hour from you is nearly always another predatory relationship depleting resources needed to get you to an actual safe place that is not imaginary.

This is not new info. L Ron Hubbard explains this in way more detail (and shows how to GET RID of that trauma) in Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health (back in 1950). I’ve been a Dianetics counselor for over 30 years and resolving these kinds of things is easy.
