Micro Economic vs Macro Economics, most business's know their Micro Economics well but that does not mean they have a clue about the broader Macro Economic trends. Debt Service vs Disposable Income is back to 2019 levels. It is 11.5% currently. I believe interest rates will continue to rise putting further pressure on various markets particularly the auto, real estate, and consumer credit markets. A lot of that capital is currently locked up in government debt and so the recovery will be dependent on how quickly the government cuts the reckless spending. As the interest on US debt is approaching (perhaps exceeding) $1trln which alone is 25% of net tax revenue that debt burden will grow unless dramatic restructuring of government occurs. That debt burden is going to continue to be a thorn in the side of the economy.

The problem with “letting natural innovation happen” is that the Chinese are building competitive vehicles that are prohibitively expensive to import because of tariffs. That could be acceptable if doing so gave domestic manufacturers a chance to catch up and compete. If Ford/GM/etc is unwilling or unable to compete in this space, why should my choice to buy an EV be restricted? As far as their stock value goes: their founding EV divisions contribute to it, but also consider their heavy dependence on large, expensive trucks and their expensive recalls as of late.

I just want an affordable car. I don’t need a flat panel screen, leather seats, etc etc the prices of new vehicles are insane. I’m forced to buy used and paying with cash.
