The coin-op shopping carts actually aren't common in America. Maybe they are everywhere else, but I know a bunch of people who are surprised about Aldi (a German chain that's been spreading all over the USA in the last few years) having a system like that because they've never heard of it before. Carts do get stolen all the time here. The coin thing makes way more sense than the other system I do see at some stores, which is an over-complicated radio-controlled braking mechanism that's supposed to immobilize the wheels if the cart gets too far away from a radio emitter in the store. (These seem to malfunction all the time, since half the carts in the store will have one wheel that doesn't work. It sucks.)
@VaraLaFey5 ай бұрын
Here in Nevada I go mainly to Smith's (a Kroger subsidiary) and they rarely malfunction. They also rarely get stolen, and they are hassle-free for the honest consumer. If carts could be had for a buck, areas with lots of homeless - like where I go to Smith's - wouldn't have any carts left. Homeless would steal them, replace older ones with newer stolen ones, and sell them among themselves. Guarantee you.

To be honest, it’s kind of a weird issue to get hung up on. I’ve never gone to a grocery store that was completely out of shopping carts due to all of them being stolen. Stores obviously know that some people steal carts, but it’s not a large enough issue for the stores to care to fix it. Stores aren’t willing to expend the time and money to install prevention measures on their carts. I think a more annoying issue is the people who leave the shopping carts all over the parking lots (as that can cause the carts to start hitting people’s cars) and stores don’t care enough to fix that issue either.
@hedgehog31803 ай бұрын
One wheel on a shopping cart getting stuck is a pretty common way for them to break just in general so I wouldn't know if the radio system has anything to do with it.

Actually, they are pretty much all over the place, temperature and climate is less of a question than you would think when it comes to ticks. Here in Denmark we've had ticks who carry diseases for atleast 30 years, lyme's, encephalitis etc. Also, instead of not touching the grass, you should just check groin, knees, elbows, armpits, naval, behind your ears and all that good stuff.
