Two Rivers specialise in the centuries-old tradition of making handmade rag paper. We visited their water-powered mill, located among the rolling hills of West Somerset, to see how they make their paper, and find out what sets handmade rag paper apart from machine-made papers. A great paper. I wish people who complain about the price could see how labour intensive the process is.

Very interesting and also encouraging that there still are quality handmade paper done . But I find this video a bit misleading as I found out from the companys website they have now moved their paper making to a modern looking industry building. Of course it does not change any of the qualities of the paper and, I am sure, makes for more comfortable working conditions but I feel oddly cheated of the ” romance” of buying paper made in an old mill taking its power from a hundreds of years old technology, the water wheel. So now, what is the difference in buying this paper than paper from let’s say Fabriano or Arches? I suppose one can say ” hand made” is a factor, but I would also say today ” the story” , in this case a lovely old mill building and centuries old technology, is a big pull factor for the costumer, as it would have been for me. As I said, I am sure the quality is still as good as ever, but for me, some of the” feel good factor” is gone. I suggest, for the sake of honesty, you add a comment that the production, still made by hand, is now taken into a modern factory building.
