The video was disjointed. The South Carolina jets in the hangar had no wing-tip mounted missiles and the jets taking off were so equipped.

The linked video was done for a movie, but it illustrates what Minimum Interval Take Off (MITO) meant during the Cold War. These B-52s took off from the same runway 15 seconds apart. They immediately peal off in different directions to evade incoming Russian nukes. The black exhaust is unburned fuel from the water injection use to get extra thrust for takeoff. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaKZeaOurtebr9E

Every video you might view, doesn’t equate to reality. Alert and scramble aircraft have times that aren’t available to the public. Know that these alert crews will be airborne before you know that a threat has been identified. Anyone critiquing the video doesn’t really have a clue.

Yea, taking off from South Carolina and escorting TU-95s near Iceland (see how the background changes.) Also some of the aircraft tail numbers changed - so essentially a spliced together clips. But, does show what goes into launching an aircraft. A real scramble would be much shorter and a lot of these steps would have been done ahead of tim.@@IrLosin

Trust me, this was quick. I've been on the flight line for an SR-71 launch and it took 37 mins from pilot entry to brake release on the runway. About 15 minutes at Last Chance. The aircraft was clean and ready to go at pilot entry, no flags to pull. The best bit is when they pressurize the fuel tanks and the Blackbird starts pouring fuel and splashes down the taxiway.

First thing I noticed was the F-16s taking off, weren’t the ones that taxied out. I guess you use the footage you can get.😄 Having years of experience on the F-16, I can definitely appreciate the MITO takeoffs! We would do what we called a “surge”. 4 sorties with a “hot-pit” between them. Refuel & reload with engine running and pilot in the seat. Amazing aircraft!

Amazing that it "only" took 3.5 minutes to get on the runway when they're intercepting enemy aircraft. Not to mention, the planes in the hangar had no armament on them but they were loaded for bear when they got airborne. When did they have time to load the missiles between when they left the hangar and when the got on the runway for take-off? Oh yeah, the swept wing design of the aircraft flying with the bombers is indicative of the Tomcat, not the F16.
