I have previously lived in Russia (almost 20yrs ago now) and I was in Ukraine multiple times between 2018-2020. I was never there pre-Maidan. The "vibe" I got from Kiev was very negative and disturbing. Right Sector flags everywhere. I spoke Russian to everyone who didn't speak English and I was never harassed about it, including in the airport at passport control. I occasionally had people give me a look for speaking Russian or they would reply in Ukrainian. But everything felt "off" about the place and the news channels were like DPRK levels of stridency and "literally every problem we have is Russia's fault." How the hell could that be true in 2018? Kharkov got more and more "Ukrainianized" every time I went back. More people in military uniform. More recruiting for Azov right on Freedom Square. But I always spoke Russian in that city and everyone responded to me in Russian. But this insanity, this refusal to acknowledge basic realities that I *know* all Ukrainians can see right in front of their eyes ... what the hell is this? I was ready to accept that Ukrainians wanted their own national identity, fine, but why try to take away all rights of Russian speakers when *most* of the country speaks Russian as their native language? Now I am suspicious of anything I see resembling the Ukrainian flag. I will not trust anything a Ukrainian says anymore. This makes me sad, but it isn't Russia's fault. They spent 8 years doing this to themselves and nobody knows where it will all end. Finally, as an American taxpayer, I am furious that we have given over $100 billion of money that the citizens of the US have to pay out of their pockets, money which is stolen directly from our salaries, to fund this insanity! Enough is enough.

The issue with the Russian language wasn’t really in it being banned in daily use but it being banned officially (public offices and services) and being removed from schools. Sure you could argue that it’s Ukraine and they should only have their own language, but when we’re talking about lands (Eastern Ukraine) that have belonged to Russians for as long as people lived there, then it becomes an issue. Because either they should be able to keep their identity or this land shouldn’t belong to this new country altogether.

Sounds like Croatia in the 90s. Language changed forcefully to make it more different from Serbian.
@danny816932 ай бұрын
Yet Croatian and Serbian (as well as Bosnian), are essentially the same language on a dialect continuum, which is why these nationalities can have conversations in their own languages and perfectly understand each other. The Yugoslav wars were wars between kindred nations encouraged and fanned from outside and the war in Ukraine is a repeat with the same actors pulling the strings gs in the background. Notice that prior to the West’s involvement with the Maidan regime change operation, Ukrainians and Russians have been historically friendly with each other given their shared culture and history.

@@danny81693 prior to Maidan and SVO even American considered all Ukrainian - Russian. Most of Russian mafia characters in Hollywood are from Kiev or Odessa, which is funny: Oleg from 2 brokes girls is from Kiev, Victor Orlov from Warlord is from Odessa, every second Russian charactor are Cossacks (Ukraine militia). Even Ukrainian actress from Ukraine like Milla jovovich, Mila Kunis and Olga Kurilenko all 3 of them cant speak Ukrainian because none of their relatives speak Ukrainian. And Mila Kunis is from West Ukraine. And very few of Kiev Maidan government are really native Ukrainian speakers. And I can tell you a lot of Ukranian today who switched to Ukrainian language speak it poorly. This is madness. Even during Vietnam war there were Soviet backed North VN and US backed South VN, but they both considered themself Vietnamese. Trying to deny your trueself historical and cultural identity is a form of mental illness. It is a part of Globalist scheme to divide people and weaken old civilization and culture, divided society is easier to control and manipulate. Because a nation may have civil wars, but they will eventually rejoin together because of their shared soul, history and culture. The neocon globalists hate that and they actually waging war against national unity and integrity of culture on everybody in the world.

Imagine how much worse the situation is here. We do not even differ in faith. moreover, the Kiev Metropolitanate and the entire high clergy moved to northeastern Russia in 1299, in 1324 - to Moscow. and continued to receive the titles of Metropolitans of Kiev and all Russia until 1448, before the autocephaly of the Church. This happened when the Patriarchate of Constantinople turned towards uniatism for the sake of the emperor who hoped for an alliance with Rome for the sake of military aid against the Ottomans. But it managed to ordain new metropolitans of Kiev Uniates, bringing division. Then, however, the Byzantine clergy came to their senses, but it did not help, in 1453 Constantinople was captured by the Turks. In Ukraine Catholics and Uniates fought against Orthodoxy. And the Cossacks of Zaporizhia, raising uprisings, first of all put forward a demand to Krakow (the capital of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, which ruled over them) to leave the faith and worship in peace. They forgot about that too.

@@_Shtosh_ This is such a tragedy. I have no words. I can not see the ethic/cultural/language difference between Russians and Ukrainians, they are the same to me. The differences are so minor that they are laughable. The only thing that separates is that Ukrainians worship the West. The whole conflict started in 2014. because of EU agreement about Stabilization and Association Process, which is a meaningless worthless paper, we have that in Serbia for more than 10 years, it did not bring us any benefit, because negotiations with the EU can last for decades, and they can block them whenever they want. In the end I can only say that I thought that we in Yugoslavia were the dumbest nation with our civil war, but now I have changed my mind, Ukrainians have surpassed us in their stupidity tenfold.

As a Croat I would like to mention the west did not want us in the beginning, as they banned us from the arms market, so we basically had to raid armories or illegally source weapons. Only later when we were actually winning did they give us a window of opportunity to attack which led to our victory. Probably because they saw our government wanted to be more "western". What I hate is when the war began our politicians were ready to fly away, but when the Serbs got jammed in Slavonia they decided to remain. They were not like Tito or some other heroes, they would have ran if it was not safe. Also in regards to the banning thing, I am not aware of any banned symbols in Croatia, only fascist ones. You are still allowed to have communist symbols. When it comes to emigration, this is incorrect as let me tell you, more are leaving then they are arriving, we have more bosnian croats than we do actual croats. Our current government has a stupid party that is trying to push people who previously immigrated out back here, but that is more for show and will not lead to any results.

And even though Russians can understand the gist of Ukrainian, you don't understand all of it so you still have to use Google Translate on this asshole everytime. Russians and Ukrainians are different political orientations, not ethnic groups. Ukrainians had the right to be separate at one time (this is literally their essence), but no one can give them the right to kill the people of Donbass. Even if there are fossils in Donbass that are so dear to Mr. Lindsey Graham.
@irizarry8012 ай бұрын
@camencowogh8333 Have you ever been to Ukraine? For retired soldiers, it looks like a great place to build a big house and live away from big political centers and their big problems, which is the essence of the worldview of all Ukrainians. This has been the case for a very long time, and applied to the entire countryside, including the Orthodox part of the region. On the other hand, cities were built by empires (mostly Russian), and the division by religion never disappeared. So a Ukrainian is primarily a rural resident who would very much like to be left alone, but Ukrainians of another religion have always been on his head, who later inherited a religious division, but without religion itself. Since the population of the former Ukrainian Orthodox parts of the region turned out to be on the losing side in the Cold War, their other Ukrainian opponents decided to be on the winning side and rob them "a little". BTW, from 1991 to 2001, 10 million people were expelled from the new state of Ukraine, and their property (including their parts of the former socialist state property - factories, mines) remained to those who expelled, but who cares today? When those who could be expelled and robbed without a big gang war ran out, problems began to grow. And then, in addition, American senators (for example, Mr. Graham) joined the division of Ukrainian property. Oh, I'm sorry, they joined the rescue of Ukrainian property from Russia and pro-Russian Ukrainians. Obviously, pro-Russian Ukrainians are not democratic enough to have important property or influence a democratic state.

So, without any pretense on my part of understanding what's happening in Ukraine at a sociological level, I find the kind of national Ukrainian attitude that you are describing somewhat childish, even if in a very dark and destructive way. I do not intend to judge, I'm just describing how it feels when looked at from a distance. It looks like the attitude of an insecure teenager that dumps all the fault for the challenges of growing up and finding his own identity onto his parents. Frustrated and angry, he defines himself by subtraction (deciding whom he doesn't want to be, rather than whom he wants to be) and decides to try to emancipate himself. But he can't, because he is still a kid and doesn't have the personal structure, skills and experience to be truly self-sufficient yet. So he ends up listening to and leaning onto some dangerous and questionable false friends that promise him a better life that they can't actually secure for him. When it happens to a person, it's usually just a phase in that person's life and it gets sorted out automatically when the person grows up, hopefully leaving behind nothing more than melancholic memories of how naive and rough (personality-wise) he or she once was. When it happens to a Country and it's so severe that it manages to hijack the ideology of a meaningful fraction of the whole population by leveraging an inflated and wounded pride, it turns into a wide scale hallucination that brings lethal danger to that same population, suddenly lost into a fantasy that distorts reality, the perception of what is actually attainable and the perception of the cost of embarking in conflicts that cannot be won in any meaningful way. Looking at some of the most egregious and fanatical ideologies that are expressed by some Ukrainians on social media and on the political landscape these days is at the same time scary and alienating. Does it make any sense? Or am I far off the mark?

Yes, but Belarussians dont suffer from this because they acknowledge that Veliko-russians, Bela-russians, and Malo-russians are literally 3 parts of one whole. Our identities are intertwined as we grew side by side, intermarried, and formed the kingdom of Rus. Even Serbians calls us brothers, and they are much more genetically and culturally unique from us. Ukrainians want some grandiose past. Maybe you are right, but I also think that outside influence played a huge role in Ukraine's delusions of grandeur. Polish brainwashing from the time they were annexed definitely impacted western Ukraine.

your story about ukranians reminds me, in part, to the relationship between croats/croatians and serbs (full disclossure: im serbian) similar to your story, i was a kid when both sfry and sssr dissolved, yugoslavia was trying to stay alive for some time (there was a union, serbia and montenegro, as we are of the same nationality), but ultimately serbia even lost the southern province of kosovo..after nato bombing campaign in '99., and put one of the largest nato bases there, not for us, but for russia so, i lived in a few countries, never living my home town, heh my grandad was a battleship commander/captain in the navy, equivalent rank of a colonel in the army, and he explained to me that we had to live croatia (i was there for a summer, my grandparents lived in croatia), bcs war is comming, he probably still had contacts in yna, sfry military, so we left well in advance of any conflicts, as most of the serbs from that area as i was very interested in everything military, i spent my days in belgrades military museum, climbing tanks from ww2, inspecting every thing, and ofc, kept asking my grandad why is all that happening, so he explained the whole history of yugoslavia, its various nationalities, and it boiled down to the animosity between us serbs and croats, centuries old as soon as war started, croats started changing lang, which we shared until then, serbo-croatian, we talked the same way as allways, they started making up words, and even taking words from "old" serbian and claimed them as theirs, and as croats had nazy ties from ww2, they had conc camps for serbs, the war rekindled that hate toward us, and they became renazified once again, which was terrible, they got to the stage where they claimed they were not of slavic origin, but of german descents.. i felt exactly like you, whole thing was so strange, croats did everything just to be anti serbian, they hate us to this day (not every croat does, but their ustase, nazis, were slaughtering serbs, literary), i never got why they hate us so much, as my family and me didnt hate them, just not liking them for hating us in the first place and this is true to this day, me, with my profusely serbian surname i always get pulled over at the border crossing and my car gets the fullest inspection, when im traveling to west eu, so much that i changed my path to go through hungary, to avoid the hassle, even though it ads 100+km; the hate i get online for being serbian in some croatian space, in games, etc, it absurd; i mean, so much time has passed, let it go, but no, and i am not saying that every croat is like that, but more than half are basicaly of antserbian nationality (i think they define themselves like that, its a part of ther national identity), the soccer games are vicious, if a game is played in belgrade, the whole route from the train station to the stadium is cordoned off by cops in those turtle suits, keeping them calm, probably the same happens in zagreb, when "our" guys go there at least its peacefull for the last almost 30yrs, apart from nato bombing, croatia is nato now, we are surrounded by nato on all sides, its crazy i wrote too much, sry, but i feel you, man, as i said my grandparents were serbs living in croatia, and my mother was born there, so as a kid felt at home there, but that changed, ive been there only a few times after the war, it is a little better now, but most serbs still dont dare going, which is such a waste, as their coastline is one of the longest ones in the world, many island, the adriatic is a great sea, dark blue waters, very timid, and croatia is a very nice country, but it all goes down the drain when some serb hater slashes your tyres, or bangs up your car, just bcs you have serbian plates; it seems to me the animosity will never end.. p.s. i just bought stalker2, it came out yesterday, waited for more than a decade to get the sequel, i loved the original trilogy..

I soon realized it was impossible to learn the truth from Western media. They all repeated the same distortions. There was no truth about Nazis and the attempts to change the entire history and culture. I learned so much about the history of Russia and Ukraine. Sadly, the most powerful people in American foreign policy are descendants of Jewish exiles from Ukraine a century ago and they truly hate Russia. They are also poltical descendants of Leon Trotsky, so they have that reason, too. There were Americans like them that went crazy, as well. They put Ukrainian flags on their houses and stickers that said, “I stand with Ukraine.” People like me who just wanted peace and didn’t hate Russians or Ukrainians were seen as anti-American. 🤣I soon found alternative news sources that gave more reliable information. I saw video evidence of what the Azov Brigade did and of how they used abused and even killed civilians. I am grateful to God that you are now safe and that Russia is rebuilding Mariupol. You surely have a bright future, now.
