The same thought occurred to me. His remarks were probably misreported or resulted from a mistranslation. I salute the former Latvian President for courageously calling out the Russians for the recent cable cutting incidents. Latvia is particularly vulnerable to Russian intimidation because of its relatively small population and militaryestablishment. Latvia also has a domestic problem vis a vis Russia, because during the post-war Soviet domination of Eastern Europe, many ethnic Russians were encouraged to emigrate to the Baltic states. They held courts, civilians acting as police arrested criminals and they were held in certain houses as prisons, set up an army... Very different circumstances for certain... but maybe the Georgians could do something like that - hold alternative elections and elect am alternative government which could be recognised by the international community...
