I am glad I just about managed to avoid the V-Cubes, I remember going for the cheaper ShengShou big cubes over the original AoSu and AoChuang and then eventually upgrading to the WuQue and WuShuang in 2017. It is crazy to think that Michal Halczuk could get low 3 minutes with a V-Cube 7 back in 2010.

I remember when I first started cubing V-Cubes had just arrived. I still have my 6 and 7! One thing you touched on briefly but I wish you had went more in depth on is who their target market was. I haven’t gone into a toy store in many years, but I can remember seeing vcubes at mall toy stores since like 2018-2021 maybe. Gan cubes and Moyu cubes were blowing up at this point. I’m not being a butt by bringing this up because yes to the speedcubing community vcube is dead and gone, but they always were marketing towards a mass market. And they did it very well. (Example, you getting a vcube 3 for your birthday.) the vast majority of the population have no idea who Dayan or Moyu were because they were very niche products. But they knew what vcube was because they saw them at retail stores. I think Vcube was very successful in its marketing and tbh might not be as dead as many old head cubers like myself might think (as long as they still sell cubes at mall toy stores 😂) awesome video dude! Took be back to my early days of cubing and remembering how vcube kinda shot themselves in the foot lol

fun fact, you might not know this, but Moyu, Gan and other prominent chinese brand cubes can be found in malls/department stores in China and quite possibly other places in East Asia and Southeast asia. With that said, yes I agree v-cubes was built for a mass market. I think Chinese cube companies do better, they have cubes geared towards mass market and entirely different cube towards more serious cubers.

I remember what cubing was like back in, hell, 2011! Like 10 puzzles on the market, all were $30+...quality varied wildly...now...so cheap, so many puzzles, so easy to get.

You got one thing wrong. when the v-cube 3 released, the dayan zhanchi had released around the same time, not the guhong. The guhong was way earlier 2 years before if I'm remembering correctly. I remember being a dumb kid and opting for the v-cube 3 over the zhanchi. Luckily I still had the guhong. Quick side note, rip to my v-cube 3 which someone broke lol. But I do also want to talk about one thing I absolutely loved that you mentioned. V-cubes were hecka expensive back in the day. Also want to mention one thing that may have helped show that, which is inflation. You consider the prices and how much inflation has gone, it'll show you how expensive it is back in the day. Now I want to talk about the big picture. V-cubes has an issue where once they create a puzzle, it is done. The only time they really "fixed" a puzzle was with the v-cube 6b which is a pillowed 6x6, but that's just weird and took them way too long to fix. And even when they fixed it, there was no reason to buy it, cause other companies had clearly superior 6x6's. Like most big cubes top solvers use have been released in recent years, while the big cubes from v-cube are all basically the same from original release. Also gotta mention even the more recent releases have issues, they're using old patents to make cubes if I'm not mistaken. Meaning, that the hardware isn't improved at all. I also want to mention one inherent problem v-cubes has that isn't really solvable, which is the fact that their company is located in Germany, not China, where most speedcube manufacturers are located. And that means the costs are a lot more expensive, compared to China, meaning they have to make the cube more expensive. And here's the thing, when Chinese cubes are cheaper and better, there's no reason to buy a v-cube. If V-cubes was still more expensive, but somehow better, people would consider buying it. Overall, I'm, a bit confused on how v-cubes can still survive. And the reason I say this is because they've barely released any cubes. And now there's lots of competition. Even budget big cubes can be magnetic, have florian holes (which v-cubes don't have), and turn better than v-cubes for a fraction of the cost.

The survival of V-Cube is doubly confusing when you realise that the modern Rubik's brand 3x3 and Rubik's brand 4x4 can go toe to toe with them now. Like ig they still have their big cubes but very few people are gonna be buying a 6x6 or 7x7 and not doing the basic amount of research to know that much better ones exist.
