I'm confused. Is Hawaiian Pidgin an example of a "Creole"? But I always thought Creole was a specific type of pidgin language itself. Also, is Communication Accommodation just a more formal name for code-switching. It sounds like maybe code-switching is an example of "converging" Accommodations. But the converging/diverging explanation is confusing too, because if the goal of Accommodation is "to fit in" then it doesn't make sense for "diverging" to be one way of Accommodating.

After a walk through online dictionaries, Wikipedia, and an informative article on the subject, I conclude that Creole is a language derived from a European and non-European language (possibly more than two) being combined, then systematized for consistency, then expanded based on its sources and later usage. It may be derived from a pidgin but is categorized by linguists as a full fledged language. I suggest that Study Hall either add a definition of "pidgin" and explain the difference and relation between "pidgin" and "creole" or simply cut out that slide with the creole definition, since it's not immediately relevant to the rest of the presentation and in fact induces confusion.
