Here's the thing I've learned over time. Mk8dx has genuinely evolved to a point where I think Lightweights, Mediumweights and Heavyweights all have valid use-cases. I have a friend who plays inside drift Toadette who makes easy work of literally any lobby I'm in (and I've played the game long enough to hit 40k VR). Over time I've realized that all wieght classes come with their own benefits Lightweights: Smaller hitboxes and higher acceleration Middleweights: Perfect medium with high mini-turbo and decent topspeed. The baseline and more common "meta picks" Heabyweights: High top speed enables unparalleled performance on tracks with less turns and an abundance of boost panels. Heavy-weights also struggle less with expert shortcuts. Attempting the mushroom gorge gap jump with Yoshi Vs Funky is like night and day easier with funky imo Side note 17:16 This is exactly why I play regional lobbies. Itemplay in worldwides can legit feel completely unreactable and while it might take a bit longer to find a more competitive lobby in regionals, if you spend an extra 5-10 minutes, it goes a long way

I don’t know if it’s just me, but it feels like the Boo is way more common recently, but takes way worse items. I get hit by it 2-3 times a race at a minimum, and of the roughly dozen times I used it in a bottom spot during my last session, it gave me items typical for 1st or 2nd place 8 or 9 times.

The coin is an item designed to make you feel helpless, it would be way too overpowered if you could always pull red shell defences in first place, so the coin is there to balance things out.

The nerf to bagging was done in probably the smartest possible way that nintendo could have. Mad props to the guy behind it. Its not killed, but the part that was unhealthy for the game was. Bagging does require some level of skill to do and that part has remained and gotten even higher actually.

My opinion on bagging. I believe it is antithetical to the spirit of the game and anything Nintendo can do to deemphasize it, is a good thing. Though I understand the function of better items in the back (closing the distance between front and back of pack makes the game more tense/fun for everyone), intentional bagging needs to end.
