Isn't it insane how a video game has birthed a world and lore that in my opinion stands equal with some of the best fantasies written. So well written you get sucked as its a real history. Even the inconsistencies are written as its a scholars interpretation and not to be fully believed. Fucking love it. Love your work gets me through my day

Morrowind lore is both familiar and unique at the same time. It borrows elements from past myths and fictions, but presents it in a way that is it's own unique myth. In a way it continued where Daggerfall left off. The secret of who built Great Numidium, it's original purpose before Tiber Septim used it to conquer Tamiel, how the tribunal became gods and so on.

I understood the "We must misinterpret this" line as referring to the Dwemer trying to rationalize what has happened and come up with a "logical" explanation for something that defies the very logic they hold so dear. Basically resorting to pseudoscience (interpreting the evidence in a way that fits a predetermined conclusion rather than following the evidence wherever it leads) to explain a supernatural miracle.

I think the line "We must go and misinterpret this" is meant as a slam on the Dwemer and their wisdom. I take it when the Dwemer says "Nothing is of any use" that they are saying it rather moronically; he's knocking them. It's similar to when Vivec stares in Sermon 5 "the Dwemer in their haste built [the Simulacrum] shoddily' which is something we know the Dwemer didn't do: shoddy work. It's an insult or a sneer.
@DevinDTV Жыл бұрын
i also think it's likely that the line was meant to mock the dwemer, not something they really said. "quick, let's go be idiots!" basically

Reading, studying, and absorbing these lessons, which is definitely an in-progress & bit by bit thing that happens over time (and only after repeated listenings or readings) regarding the absorbing part, for the first time has changed my life. I have Drewmora to thank for providing the spark, the spark of interest that soon became a burning fire of passionate dedication, and I'm grateful for it. He couldn't have known the effect his 36 lessons videos would, or even could have on anyone out there, a fact that further reinforces the power of it. Sermon 4 is +everything+ to me hahaha

My current interpretation of "Nothing is of any use. We must go and misinterpret this." is as follows: When faced with "nothing" aka not getting any answers while probing our minds and the external world for the TRUTH of everything (whatever that is or if it even exists), humans tend to "misinterpret" rather than have nothing. Because you can take nothing and make anything out of it (if that makes sense) thus nothing can be of "any use". So in a very funny, sarcastic way, I feel as though the Dwemere are being self-aware and breaking the fourth wall here. Misquote: "We've got nothing. So let's go ahead, take the info, and twist it however we want." Listening to a lot of Elder Scrolls lore, I've started to see the Dwemer like a big metaphor for humanity's search for meaning through science. So when faced with something that is beyond their comprehension or interpretation through scientific means, they go ahead and try to interpret the info through that same limited lens anyway. Vivec's egg could be a metaphor of the TRUTH, or everyhing that exists/its source, and meaning. It was mentioned somewhere that Vivec wanted to be everyhing all at once: all genders, races, species, etc. This is just a possible interpretation. I went ahead and misinterpreted. ;)

It's important to keep in mind the context the 36 sermons are written in. I don't feel lines like 'we must go and misinterpret this' should be taken as things the dwemer literally said. This is a parable vivec is presenting to his people. He is showing that the dwemer ignore that which they cannot explain, and search for ways to logically interpret it rather than accepting it.
@feyfolken16552 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've always just taken that part as a snarky jab at the dwemer.
@zetsumi41602 жыл бұрын
@@feyfolken1655 Out-of-universe it probably is. In-universe it's probably more intended as tribunal propaganda, considering they stole their divinity from the heart of Lorkhan using methods devised by the dwemer, it'd make sense they wanna portray the dwemer to their people as 'unenlightened' and discourage people from learning too much about them.

It is a conceit of poets that their art presents the highest of truths - and that truth and beauty are fused in their scribblings. Well. The beauty part is there. Great poetry is... great. Wonderful. Delightful. Strikes a nerve. Conveys deep meanings - layers and layers of deep meaning. I'm a fan. But the 'highest of truths' claim is a scam. Vivec knew it, too, and used it to his advantage when building his religion from scratch. Vivec presents his poetic 'lessons' to create for himself legitimacy that he did not earn. He was not a god in the womb but a mortal Chimer; he acquired godhood through an act of betrayal and murder and by using Kagranac's tools, as recommended by Sotha Sil, his conspirator. His powers were stolen - but one does not create a religion by admitting this, does one? It is the height of folly to take seriously Vivec's lessons, whose purpose is to justify his godhood to his worshipers, not to explain what actually happened. It's all poetic lies.

The netcherman’s wife could also be analogous to a Mary figure. Mary was blessed with perfection and salvation from birth as a result of her future duty of birthing the Son of God. Her pregnancy was protected from the arch-rival of the supreme angel Lucifer who could not bare that a human woman would be elevated to a role above his and be crowned the queen of Heaven. Jesus exercised love with His life by the ultimate example of lying it down for the world. He was also radical in preaching love in those days. Just something I noticed.

I think they would also kill Vivec, for everything Vivec stole from the Yokudans, put that in with all the lies Vivec has told about Yokuda and the Redguards. A Redguard Nerevarine would read the sermons and interpret it as Prince A'tor watching over him.
