I was a runner for 30 years, and I have arthritis in both my knees, bone on bone, I’m 62, and now I walk 45 to 60 minutes 5 to 6 days a week, my knees feel so much better as well as my body in general, no more pounding on my body.

Walking has really worked for me. I've gone from 263 lbs. to 195 lbs. over the past three years (I am 6' 1"). I've increased my strength during this time as well. I can relate to what is being said; for me walking works because it is SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely).

Walking is great for fat loss. When you decide you want to lose weight and go on a deficit, walking makes that deficit easier. 5km/day on a treadmill walking on 5km/h with a low to medium incline will burn enough calories to squeeze in one more meal and feel full. This alone is enough to make fat loss sustainable. You are not hungry anymore because walking doesn't make you hungry and you still get to eat a lot and keep your deficit. I lost 40kg just by walking and eating healthy every day for 1 year and I feel great. Johnny Walker was right...

I'm astounded that people ask if walking is cardiovascular exercise. Seriously? People have been misled. A brisk 60-90 minute walk with hills and stairs included is fantastic cardiovascular exercise. Every runner I know has experienced chronic injuries to hips, knees, ankles, shins (me included). It's so hard on the body, yet so many people think they have to do it. I enjoy the topics you guys cover in the podcast. Thx and best regards

Sure but even that gets easy and then people want to know how to push themselves harder. Myself included. I walk all day at work and go for a leisurely walk after work to wind down. None of this pushes my body at all. Walking is great exercise for many, but not for those who are already doing physical activity all day, every day lol

@@kodyramon That is an excellent point. In fact I have never heard anyone explain this more simply or clearly. Your point is that walking is very good for the body but if you are doing it every day it doesn't require anything special from the body because the body already adapted long ago. And if you want to see physique changes, you would need to add something different in.

Running is necessary if your overall energy expenditure is not high each day. Sure if you have time in the day to walk for an hour or two then fine, running isn't necessary. But if you don't have the time, walking isn't going to burn the calories necessary to make up your lack of activity.

Walking is cardiovascular exercise. I think some people feel that they have to walk longer distances and spend more time as it becomes easier, but you could also just walk faster pump your arms, hilly terrain, as long as your heart rate is where it’s supposed to be for moderate intensity activity you’re doing 150 minutes a week of that you’re doing pretty well for maintaining health. now weight loss is another story that might be more about calorie Restriction

sounds like it if its higher intense cardio. Depends on what ur goals are mainly cardiovascular or strength. if u want to be stronger mainly weight train and focus on ur metabolism . Our metaboilsms are the furnace for fat burning. You will be able to eat more cause u burn more . (clean calories mostly ) . We all underestimate the importance of REST.... Its when we recuperate . The constant need to do more is actually the opposite of what we really need to do. Ran way too many years was up and down in weight for decades. Wasn't sustainable. Also so much cardio made me eat way more than I should have. Pay attention to your hunger signals . All I do now is walk everywhere and on weight training days with a slight incline 20 or so minutes and I've been able to keep my weight stable while getting stronger.

The meathead who says walking isn't cardio is lumping all walking together. When I do 45-60 minutes at 3 MPH on a 5-degree incline, my heartrate and sweat let me know it's cardio. It's much more intense than the walking I do throughout the day.

I always was right when I used to go to the park with a group of people they start to run right away and when I see them running it's just ridiculous they way they were running all out of shape, me on the other hand I just started to walk.

I enjoy lifting weights and running. It tires me listening to strength trainers put down running like it’s bad. “We don’t grow up running” Bullshit, you didn’t play sports as a kid or run around the block with your friends? No we didn’t do long distance running. BUT, running is a skill, sound familiar? Trainers also like to preach about efficiency. Running is the most efficient form of cardio, not even debatable.

Yes, some of the points he is making are just plain ridiculous. Running has been a common form of aerobic activity for hundreds of thousands of years - evolutionarily our bodies are built in a way that allows us to run from dawn to dusk. And as you have mentioned earlier, as kids we can run effortlessly but when we grow up we tend to lead a sedentary lifestyle, develop severe muscle imbalances and simply forget what it means to be running. On top of that, modern running shoes exacerbate these problems allowing people to heel strike and internalize wrong movement patterns... As for walking, the guy saying that walking is not cardio just doesn't seem to understand what cardio really is. Walking is the purest form of cardio. It's the best way to actually lose weight as bodyfat melts away at a fairely low heart rate (115-130bpm) which can be easily maintained while... well, while walking.

I’m training since I’m 13 now in 34yo 80kg I’m around 20% body fat 1,78 cms I started implementing cardio walking on inside treadmill at home fasted 7-8am and weight at 6-7 pm I’m leaner I lost around 4-6 kg but I also feel bigger bigger muscles , also my calves are growing ( I always split train twice a week legs ) both days I do calves but after I used treadmill this last two months I feel tigher calves and growing almost weekly I have been getting compliments lately 😅also upper body feels bigger it’s surprising for me due to my years training natural after 20+ years training you kinda stop gaining muscle that fast , compared to the first 5 years of training

It’s funny you say that about running because I have ran across this with clients they don’t know how to run . Doing track in high school I didn’t realize during warm ups these were the mechanics to running

10k in 45 minutes is at least jogging speed. That's like a 9 minute mile pace, normal people aren't walking that fast. 45 minutes of walking will net close to 4500-5000 steps, maybe a little more if your pace is faster, but definitely not 10k steps.

You need fucking cardio to be lean and shredded. I see too many dudes just lift and they look fat and out of shape and their body isn't as healthy as it could be if they played a sport and ran much more. But you also don't wanna be a classic skinny ass skeleton runner
