To everyone who says the Subaru segments aren’t that bad: SciShow is a channel dedicated to scientific education and awareness. Much of their content focuses on climate change which is caused by greenhouse emissions. Much of the SciShow viewership thinks it is disingenuous for the show to partner with a carbon - emitting vehicle company to produce content for this reason. Yes, brand deals are how they keep the lights on, but there are plenty of brands willing to work with SciShow. Subaru, nor any other car company, should be one of them.

You guys should look at the other two thirds of Washington and Oregon. It's not necessarily as photogenic as the coast (though I personally think it is) the geology is truly epic. Think lava pools so mind bogglingly deep they flattened mountains. As well as rivers of liquid rock hundreds of miles long. Thanks for the show.

Yeah, so many people complained about the last video, even though this kind of cooperation keeps this channel going. Most interestingly is that the people that complain arent even patreons (at least the ones I asked about it). This one video probably covers 20 videos fiancially, which is a great deal for all of us viewers! But they expect the hosts to life off love and air.

They should take any that comes their way, and we should applaud those sponsors for doing the right thing and encouraging growth in science knowledge

Evi1M4chine there is a flu vaccine. It isn’t perfect, but it has been proven to reduce complication rates, hospital stays and mortality. Yes, flu kills, but we have a vaccination option. People make the decision to take that or risk their lives each year. Personally I take my flu vaccine each year, especially as I have complex health conditions that increase my chances of complications if I got flu. My asthmatic daughter always gets hers too. Unfortunately in the U.K. we have to pay for it for people who aren’t ‘high risk’ so my husband and eldest child don’t tend to get one. But I offer to buy them one each year and they make an informed decision. Flu does kill every year, but not quite the numbers we are seeing from C19. There is a covid 19 website set up to dispel facts about the virus and one of the facts is “it’s just like flu” which is not true. The percentage of people dying is higher, the infection rate is higher than influenza too. This is not the same as seasonal flu anymore. Maybe it started out with similar statistics, but not now.

@Evi1M4chine This is not like the normal flu or even other corona virus strains like SARs. Not only is it a much more deadly form, hence being called "super flu", we have no immunity built up against this one. So in other words, the situation we're in is a lot like how Europeans brough the common cold over to North America, but on a global scale. That of course means its that much worse for those with compromised immune systems.

I like this much better than #1 and #2. it was much "meatier", and I had known almost nothing about sea stacks before. I also liked the ad bit, because it sounded like Stefan actually had something unique to say about it and could demonstrate it (the trunk does look convenient).

Really interesting. Also, the sea stacks in Australia - the '12 Apostles'. There's never been 12 of them, and they were originally just called the Apostles. But people eventually started calling them the 12 Apostles from the assumption that there were 12. Also, one of the stacks collapsed recently, but it's been the only one so far.

I grew up going to the Leo Carrillo beach in Southern California, and the beach looks a lot like that with caves and sea stacks. It’s cool to now know how they formed.

I live on the north Oregon Coast, and I really enjoyed this series. Seastacks are one of my favorite coastal geological features. I researched our local seastacks at the public library several years ago and found that many of them are a western extrusion of the Columbia River Basalts, which I think is pretty cool. I enjoy looking for the range of basalt expression, from large columns to brickbat jointing to pillow lava.

If you want to do another series on the amazing geology ofWA visit Eastern WA. Not many people know we have a desert in the PNW. Lots of cool volcanic formations and so much more to explore.

Also, rocks in the water often cause nasty undertows. Which is why the family camp my family attends has a "No Wading without a rope, life vests and a lifeguard" rule. (Before I was born, one of my cousins got swept out to sea at a family gathering thanks to an undertow. He stayed calm and was recovered alive. The surfer who tried to rescue him wasn't so lucky...)

Maybe to get close enough to communicate and have assistance looking out for trouble. And I don't think that they wrecked on the rocks that were above water, I believe that they crashed on rocks in shallow water around the stack.

The issue isn't the cold so much as how long they probably spent filming. More than likely they were out there for hours, 'used to it' or not prolonged exposure is still a problem. Temperature really just effects how easily/quickly it happens. They also weren't dressed that heavy, and definitely not for Alaskan winters. They make ours look like summer.:P

I think this series is mostly about the Coastal/Olympic region. Dry Falls and other glacier-carved landscapes deserve their own series.

Erosion is constantly changing the landscape. The sea stack at time 1:48 through 1:52 and I believe it is the same one behind you while filming at 2:33, has lost half of its north facing base and a little of his height. I have several photos of the sea stacks at Ruby Beach on my phone from August 17, 2011. They have all changed a little due to the erosion from storms and high tides. You need to go back in July or August and spend few nights down at Kalaloch Campground.

People get stuck on them as they are attracted to the surrounding tide pools at low tide, then whoops the tide comes in and the Coastguard has to come rescue them. Odd to omit something like that.

An example of dangerous sea stacks is the abandoned lighthouse "Terrible Tilly" off the coast of Oregon. Not only was Tillamook rock a significant navigational hazard for ships, but the same swirling currents, unpredictable winds, and huge waves which made it so dangerous also made the lighthouse itself near impossible to BUILD. The US Lighthouse service lost the Barque 'Lupatia' and her entire 16 man crew during construction. The light itself was deactivated fairly early (1947 I think) in part due to the difficulty of resupply, with wind shear making airlifting supplies far too dangerous

@@kme As with any lighthouse, there was a vested interest in preventing loss of life and cargo in the midst of night, storm, and fog. Its a mile off the present coast in the middle of what was a major coastal shipping lane, as well as waters frequented by local fishing fleets

How to write off a camping trip as a business expense... honestly this series came across as sort of weird and not entirely 'honest'. If there were some reason for being on site to discuss a topic, some meeting with an expert in the field. This was just watching people talk about stuff to create vague reason for a road trip.
