While I’m very happy for you both & flabbergasted at the jaw-dropping salary for jobs straight out of college, this made me cry because I had no such luck. I’m stuck with my $10/hr job that I had in college because I never found a relevant job for my BSc in biology degree (2014). I’ve stopped looking at this point because it’s always a never ending list of requirements that they want even for entry-level positions… Minimum 5 years experience or you need to have taken specific classes, certificates etc. etc….right out of college. 😭
@randomuserame
@randomuserame Жыл бұрын
Intership exp and volunteering counts as experience. Go do relevent things for free until they pay you for it. Until then keep that job that pays you. You don't need to work full time, just be continuously employed/interning/volunteering with said company/organization, and keep an eye on specific "named" requirements (some employers may want a specific speciality/focus). In some cases, you may be able to substitute years in school for experience. Apply anyways, get to the interview, and come clean. Just tell them straight up and ask if they're really looking for several years experience for an entry level position. If they say yes, deadass ask them to intern for free under a senior staffer to get the experience. Tell them that you can't commit 100% if they're not willing to pay and ask if they can work around your paying job (word it as your "paying job" and not your "other job"). Tell them after 2 years you expect to have enough experience and that you'll be asking them to re-evaluate you for an entry level *paid* position. Also, while you're here commenting on videos, go watch videos on sales and negotiations. EVERYTHING is a negotiation if you talk to the right person, if they like you enough to listen, and if you work towards a mutual good.

I don’t mean this in a negative way and I hope it doesn’t come across that way. I’m a Latter-day Saint, I’m your age, and my net worth is around $200k. One reason it’s so “low” is because I was told I have have kids immediately and be a SAHM. I have two kids and I had to get a hysterectomy at 26, so I don’t regret it… but i do kind of wish I took a similar path to yours. How did/do you deal with judgmental Latter-day Saints who disagree with you for not having kids yet and focusing on “worldly things”?
@JoshandKatie
@JoshandKatie 2 жыл бұрын
I understand where you are coming from- none of the women in my life had careers either growing up, so this definitely wasn’t a clear path. But, I honestly didn’t get much judgment for taking this path after college. I mean don’t get me wrong, Grandpa definitely asks me where the kids are and I do get some comments. 🤣I think sometimes people care about others decisions way less than we care about how others feel about our decisions. At the end of the day, you need to do what makes you happy! also, $200K net worth is killing it (you are in the 1%!) and two kids under 26 is killing it! Don’t use our path as a comparison point, because you are doing wonderful!

Most people will never go into jobs that pay anything like this and they certainly won’t ever be given hundreds of thousands in shares…I’m torn between being happy for you (as you both seem so nice) and angry for all the people who work difficult jobs for 20k a year or less…

We had some luck to get there in three years for sure, but our financial habits make wealth inevitable. It was just a matter of 3 vs. 10 years.
