See how we built our Raised Vegetable Garden Bed. What materials did we use? How do you build a garden bed? What kind of soil do you add? What is clay soil? What about gutter downspouts? All these questions and more will be answered so you too can start growing the freshest organic vegetables in your own backyard garden.

If you make the winter "greenhouse" frame, you could use it during the summer for tomato trellising...

A fantastic raised bed. You will get good crops from a raised bed.

I just completed two 4x8' raised beds, using the same pressure treated lumber you used. Filled each bed halfway with a topsoil/sand blend from a local soil yard (I hear they subcontract with Living Earth...). They were out of their regular veggie blend which includes the compost, but, there was a small amount added in the topsoil blend. No matter. I topped my two raised beds with homemade leaf mold compost I've been making since last fall. Shredded leaves, coffee grinds & veggie peels. The compost is very rich beautiful, and rich in potassium, too, since I've been getting perfectly good bananas thrown in with the coffee grounds I collect, LOL! We had monsoon rains this past weekend, just in time to fully saturate my new raised beds, so, they're absolutely ready for planting! Tryna decide where to grow what, this season. But, I might just have to go back and add that seat cap, though. Your beds look great, Brandon!

Yes there are many places to get a bulk load of soil for the garden; this was the closest for us.'Sounds like you have some great soil there! Happy Gardening!

the bed looks great. Has to be tough shrinking down your garden from your previous home. looking forward to seeing your new videos, always enjoy them. Your little helper is getting big! (as seen sitting in your old garden in the other video)

Yes may have shrunk the size some. (actually a little big for our needs before; I got carried away I think LOL) But I did not show y'all the rest of my garden areas and plans yet. I have more plans ahead and other spaces to plant. All slowly coming together. I need to do a video of the overall plans and layouts. The garden won't be in one single area now.

That looks great! We have clay soil up here in Pennsylvania too, had to add a lot of amendments to make it workable. Looking forward to seeing what you plant.

Texas A&M does classes around the DFW area on various topics, and one of them in rain water collecting. $50 and they give you a barrel that's already tapped and ready to go. You can buy more barrels for $25 each. These are the heavy duty 55 gallon barrels.

Good to see you start a new garden in your new home. Where is this place in North Texas? Do you start your plants from seed or do you buy them from the nursery?

Glad to finally have somewhere to grow a garden! I'm in Garland. I buy some transplants from the local nurseries, and also direct sow seeds in the garden as well.

I have been driving past living earth in rockwall since it opened; I can't wait to see how this works; I am making big changes this year; I need to take a tour; any local source for free wood chips?

Those beds are gorgeous! Great job Brandon. I'm excited to see how they work out this year. Congrats on the new house. We just moved also and are currently planning where to put our raised beds.

for the downspouts could you bury the downspout and using perforated pipe run the length of the garden to water the garden?
@bmarsh011
@bmarsh011 7 жыл бұрын
You could, but I want to control the amount of water, as much as possible, that goes into the garden. If we have some heavy rains, that perforated pipe would flood the garden and plants with all the water coming off the roofline into the garden. In the future I may add some rain barrels there.

Much cheaper than Big Box Store. You can get this at Living Earth, several locations, they even delivery too.

You know, you could make the bed by the house wall, a " lean to" greenhouse during the winter.
