When you take your bread out of the bowl, put it right on your parchment paper. Then cut out your design, grab parchment paper and place down in your pot. You baked a beautiful sourdough bread for your first time. When i first started making it I struggled. It's because i was trying too hard. Now sourdough is so easy that I make all our breads as a sourdough. Buns, rolls, bread, and anything that involves flour, I put sourdough in it. ❤ Great video. I tried taking a cold bath once because i was desperate to bring down a fever that was causing so much pain and inflammation. It was like torture and I never done it again. 😂😂😂😂

Nothing is better than making your own bread after grinding your own flour; the natural flavors, and the aroma, and knowing there is nothing in the bread that you don’t want. Happy Holiday and a great New Year to you and your family.

I totally get what you said about the value of physical work outside for the body and mind, even if it is as (mentally) "simple" as snow shoveling. There's more and more scientific knowledge around the whole topic of how our brain's wiring requires us to be more outdoors, more in nature, more physically active and more uncomfortable in order to stay mentally stable and happy. It'd surely be an interesting topic to discuss on one of your next Cabin Talks. Literature I found very interesting around this includes: Nature Fix by Florence Williams, Grounded by Ruth Allen, Losing Eden by Lucy Jones, At Home in Nature by Rob Wood, and Adventure Revolution by Belinda Kirk. Merry Christmas & a happy winter solstice!

Happy Hollidays for you all! 25:13 I bake a lot of sourdough bread and experiments have taught me that everybody does it a little bit differently and just by trying and doing you find your own way. That is what I like about it! It looks great for a first time bread. 😊 When you live in a house where the temperature is not that high you can also proof the bread in the oven. Just warm it to +/- 40 degrees Celsius and put the bowl with cover inside and turn the oven off. After the fold you can warm the oven up again.

Happy Solstice Kalle and family! As always I absolutely love your videos, living in Devon so different to here., thank you so much. Your sour dough episode makes me smile, I have been making it every week or so for the last 4 years and remember so well how complicated it seemed….as far as I can tell, as long as you have the starter and right ingredients and leave it to rise over night it just works, I don’t worry I about kneeling in a machine; just fold it a few times if and when I remember then in the morning cut it into desired shapes with scissors and bake…makes great rolls too, perfect for breakfast…great to add seeds or fruit or rosemary and garlic; no recipe; just have fun with it. Bizarre , but handling the dough with wet hands makes it much more manageable so I have given up working it with flour, much easier. Enjoy

Hello!!! I bake sourdough alot! My helpful hint is to place your parchment paper on top of your dough, to flip it on the counter on top of the parchment. Then do your slits on it. Be sure to have a long enough piece of parchment paper to hold on two sides to lower it into your Dutch oven. I hope that makes sense to you.

Merry Christmas to you! Enjoy the nice winter weather. Regarding ice bathing: did you try to push the loose ice under the rest of the ice instead of pulling it out? We always did it that way and it seams to be easier - and you can do the whole thing in one part. Now we live in a warmer country... no ice bathing, so kind of really miss it looking at your incredible film. Enjoy :)

Happy Holidays! I just wanted to give you the name of my favourite sourdough resource.. check out " The Perfect Loaf" online. When I did my first dive into sourdough baking, that was my " go to " Back resource. Also, when you tip your dough out of the rising basket, tip it out onto a big piece of baking paper, on top of a baking sheet or flat surface. Then, to lower it into your hot Dutch oven, all you have to do is lower the unbaked dough into the pot using the paper. Much less stressful! Oh, and when you do your stretch and folds, keep your hands and tools wet. Then the dough doesn't stick! Merry Christmas from Canada, btw! 😀

Hey Kalle, very nice video, as usual, and so cosy! Concerning the dough, in the wintertime, i use my electric oven which starts at 35°C to replace the warmth of the summer sun ...It helps growing better and way faster...(in a bowl covered with some wet cloth) 😉 So funny this fear and pressure of complete failure (at 27:45 🤣 ) when we, as grown-up persons, learn something new , trying our best, but nothing goes "right"... Some mistakes are yet great successes, as it seems to be with your bread... It looks very nice, and hopefully tastes nice too! Let us know... The fact that you like shoveling snow to keep your mind sharp and to keep your body in shape... that's so great! ... and as for the sourdough bread... it looked really good!🍽I am NO good at doing anything with homemade dough, but I have been following a Ukraine KZbin channel for a while now that follows several different Ukrainian people/families, but my favorite is Maria! She does everything with such purpose and her cooking skills are very admirable! Even though they don't really say what ingredients she uses in her recipes it's easy to tell what most of it is and those videos have me wanting to make everything she cooks!!! LOL! Might be worth checking out. The KZbin channel name is "Food Around the World". Anyway, I hope you and Christine, and little August have a wonderful Yule, Christmas, and a Happy New Year!
