I know lots of people use VanLife to get away from the world so TV may not be on everyone’s list, but for us, it’s our home away from home so It's something we wanted to have. This is how we keep entertained on the road.

Great informative video. I'm using a simple Ariel and a built in Freeview box in the TV which seems to work well. Would be great to be able to use a Freeview recorder on the go to have programmes saved for viewing at a later date. Not sure if this is possible as seem to have tune the Freeview box and find channels each time I park up so not sure how it would record shows on the move.

When moving around the frequencies for the channels will be changing. This is due to each freeview mast having a slightly diffrent frequencies set to them

I’m so glad I dropped on your video, I’m all new to the world of motorhomes having only just bought my first one and I’ve got the dish and I do have one of those small sky boxes but you said that it would need an inverter to run it but I’m wanting to be off grid and you mentioned that the humax 1100s hdr are 12volt. Now not been of the electrical type but I have a couple of humax 1100s that I use in the house and I presume that I will have to buy an adapter to run it, someone mentioned that a BT phone plug has an output of 12v and will fit the humax box. Is this correct or do I need a specific humax plug and lead, all advice greatly received!

Hi Jonathan, glad the video has been useful to you. The 1100s runs fine from 12v. I would always suggest using a regulated supply rather than connecting it direct to the battery as you can never tell how things will react to 14v+ when your battery is being charged. Something like this one from Cello would be perfect. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CELLO-AUTHORISED-12V-REGULATED-ADAPTER-FOR-CELLO-12V-TVs-DVD-COMBIS-16-24/113037665724?hash=item1a5191e5bc:g:HUYAAOSwwI5bWJYi You may get lucky and the plug on the adapter may fit the Humax box, or you may need to cut the plug (that plugs into the box) off your Humax mains adapter and swap them over. Hope that helps!

Great video. Have you had to adjust the skew manually when you were abroad? and what size dish did you go for - 65/85cm?

I’m not totally sure on the size, as it’s the Mark1 it is elliptical. Yes we do skew manually but it has only really been necessary once well into Europe. The “dish align” app tells you the degrees and direction to skew the LNB based on your location.

Im in a caravan that I don’t move about. Surrounded by trees with one open but. What would you think is the best idea for me? Do u need the satfinder box for a aerial
@ExploreVanUK

If have a good digital terrestrial signal then that’s the least hassle. If not I would pop a sat finder app on your phone and see if you have a clear view of the sky at the point the sat you want is. If you haven’t than that is not an option. The sat finder box is only for aligning the sat dish. If you have a good phone signal then IPTV is an option using either hotspot from your phone / separate device. Our vid here talks about it more. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6rHaHibfK14eJo Hope that helps!

Hi, we don't have a van yet but we were quoted £2.5K to have a satellite dish supplied and fitted by a well-known motorhome dealership on to the top of a brand new conversion van. Does this price seem right?? Also, if our mobile phones and our Netgear MIFI can not get a signal in a remote part of the North Scottish Highlands, would a satellite dish on top of the van actually give us Internet access to e.g. Google Maps? - Would the dish get a signal or would it be in the same boat as the mobile phone and MIFI concerning signal strength. Good video thanks. Love from Scotland, X.

Hi, afraid I couldn’t comment on the cost of the installation without knowing exactly what they were supplying and fitting as system quality and cost vary. It would depend on the system installed as to whether it would provide you internet access. High end ones like Oyster do, but most are just for TV. Where the sat system does provide internet you would need a contract with a sat internet provider. The speed of sat internet is much slower than cellular. However it does mean that anywhere you can get a clear view of the sky you can generally get some sort of connection even if it is slow.
