This was fabulous. It makes me cry to think of how blessed we are, among all the people of history, to have the scriptures at our fingertips. My 10th great grandfather, John Robinson (1575-1625) was a theologian (and father of the Pilgrims) who studied the scriptures extensively. He believed the Lord had more to say to mankind, and that it would be given in America. Your lesson has made me appreciate the text he studied.

I lived in northern Italy and Sicily in 1981. I think it was in Sicily that I was told by Catholic women that the church didn’t allow them to read the Bible themselves. They also had to buy things from the church in celebration of different holidays or they’d lose their salvation. It took years for young couples to save up to be married in the Catholic Church b/c even a simple ceremony was so expensive & the people in this area were poor. I’m not trying to criticize the Catholic Church; I imagine it’s changed by now (and I doubt it was like that in other countries and areas back then). But the mention, in this video, of how common ppl weren’t allowed to read the Bible brought these memories back.

Those women, however, we're commenting on local marriage customs, not requirements of the Catholic Church, which, truth be told, eschews so much of the pomp and circumstance of modern weddings. Normative marriage in the Catholic Church requires a priest and the couple. Period. The only cost would be a "stipend" to the priest--to the laborer go the wages (1 Tim 5:18). In a serious pinch, the man and woman can marry each other (as in "Braveheart"), since they are the ministers as well as the matter of the Sacrament. The priest is actually the Church's witness.)

The few handwritten Bibles in those years would cost the people their lifetime earnings, and many people of those ages do not know how to read and write. Opening the Bible to laymen brought us 8000 plus Christian denominations who don’t agree on few words or passages. Giving every John and Doe the Bible was like opening the door to the Tower of Babel, we are talking of the same book but we don’t understand each other. Everyone who had read the fruit of the tree (the Book) thought he has learned how God works and think. Men of Pride. We don’t know how much more were unpublished in the old copies of Didache (the writings that preceded the Bible that we know today); they are in the libraries of many monasteries under Catholic Parishes and out of reach to just any Peter and John. This fact escaped those who claims ‘sola scriptura’ as the sole basis of their Christian faith.

I recently learned that there are actually 45,000 Christian denominations worldwide, and rapidly growing as groups break off from the churches they’re attending b/c they don’t agree w how that pastor is interpreting the Bible - so they start their own church. That number doesn’t include all the “house churches” that are springing up everywhere. I’m grateful to have been led to the missionaries over 40 yrs ago and how that has blessed my life. I love that I can attend church anywhere in the world and the doctrines taught are the same wherever I go.

I think of the scriptures like a masterpiece painting. If you look up really close to the painting, you just see splotches and blobs of paint, but if you stand back you see the beautiful masterpiece. If you look really close at the words of the bible, you might 'splotches and blobs' of words, mistakes or miss-translations, but when you stand back and look at the scriptures as a whole, you just see a beautiful image of Jesus.

This is my absolute favorite of the your ones I’ve listened to. It hooked me enough that near the end I switched from podcast to KZbin for my first time with you guys… and I’m hoping to find time to watch it from the beginning now. There is just so much I wish I could retain! Another podcast’s (possibly a different episode of yours- I listen to so many it’s a blur) explanation of the King James process had already enlightened me with a newfound appreciation for the sincerity behind “as far as it is translated correctly,” that this whole long history here just amplified that so much. Excellent educational explanation & information of the origination of biblical books! These translations of Hebrew, Greek, & Latin in conjunction with other languages did educate the masses. We are blessed for these revisions & Gutenbergs printed biblical contributions was so complicated! William Tin-dale was Godly equipped to translate with persecution but prevailed! It's a shame that Guttenberg's Press was first used by The Catholic Church, to print "Indulgences", so ST. Peter's Catholic Church could be rebuilt. But then, Luther would not have been so angry, and write his 95 Thesis.

This history of the bible has incredibly been tried, and tested with fire and proven true - particularly as it relates to the many translations and the many lives that were sacrificed to help bring the word of salvation, to peoples of the world. It would seem then, that in light of the pressing of the word of God , and the intense oppositions and sacrifices of human lives that gave birth to what we have today ; the revelation of the word of God by the Holy Spirit is not only imperative but is extremely important . For indeed, if there seems to be any lack, error or deliberate misgivings regarding bible , the Spirit of Jesus Christ is more than able reveal the Truth of God to those who seek Him. I find this portion of history of the bible most interesting, informative and stirring . Thank you.

Very good, Love it. John Rogers was one of many critical steps when he rescued Tyndale's papers. To me it seems a miracle that Rogers was able to get approval from the king to print. No surprise John Rogers was first to be burned at the stake in front of his family and large crowd under Queen Mary.

We are so blessed with this technology and the corporations that allow literally millions of us around the world to benefit from. I have no doubt the LDS Church and many other denominations have taken notice of the quality productions and invaluable information you provide to the world. And what a great benefit this technology has been as a missionary tool. The Church website is a case in point, as well as the Bible Videos the Church has produced. I've seen these Bible Videos used in several other settings and denominations. And regarding the Church website...it is so well organized, and so beautifully designed...they really do have some very talented IT and graphic designers working behind the scenes. As an avid Genealogist, this technology and the internet has opened the world to my family line. As a graphic designer working with Photoshop and Illustrator for decades now, having been published in church as well as other various magazines, I see the great talents you both have, and look forward to seeing what you have in store for all of us in the future. Great stuff! I just recently realized that twice in the Israelite history the entire OT was completely lost! Remember when Josiah was king, starting at the age of 6 or so. He was a good king. He paid to have the Jewish temple renovated and a copy of the Law was found. Maybe just the book of Deuteronomy, I'm still researching. The other time (and there may be more) was when Ezra returned to help rebuild the temple after the Babylonian captivity. I just assumed someone grabbed the scrolls and took them to Babylon. Wrong. So Ezra prayed and fasted, asking God to reveal the first 5 books to him (or maybe just the book of Moses) and he took 70, or maybe 72 scribes with him and they wrote as he was given the words by God directly (he channeled) in Hebrew. Then he read it to all the people as they stood all day to hear it. They then kept the passover for the first time in 70 years. Now all this history is difficult to find as is has been rewritten to suit their own agenda (the jews). My point is that some funny stuff was done to the OT well into the NT times in order to justify the jewish insistence that Jesus was not the Messiah. Ezra and Nehemiah may have actually been the last of the writing of the prophets, yet they are positioned at the start of the prophet's section. Why? We know from the Rabbi's that the calender was deliberately altered by 160 years. That information can be found in the non-canonical book called the Seder Olam. I didn't hear you mention any of this. My point is that the history of the Israelites and their holy books is more interesting and has more intriguing twists and turns than any mystery novel ever written! The more stuff I find, the more I realize how important these writing must be, otherwise there wouldn't have been so much effort made to throw truth seekers off the path. Another example of deliberate detours away from the truth is how the actual location of Mt. Sinai has been hidden. This just makes me desire the truth of the Word even more!

Rarely do I EVER view and listen to any video like this one. But believe it, I was glued to me chair. For it is the best narrative and music I have EVER heard. WOW! I'm going to view it again. WOW! I said all that to say this: While your historical video was great and I assume mostly true, I believe you left out one of the most things; you could've ever said. And that is this: Any wise bible scholar will tell you; that any translation from one language to another; IS going to have mistakes. Worse: it causes Miss- understandings. There is NO way to stop it. So, when one translate's Hebrew to Aramaic to Greek and to early English; there is NO way in the world all readers are not going to believe things that are lies. Oh indeed. The proof... And I believe that is why the WEB says; that there are 45,000 "denominations"; that all say, "We are right and the others are wrong. And WE got ours from the bible!". There are few points or keys in the Bible I'll like to point out. (1) Revelations: 14:6 Angel flying in heaven with the Everlasting gospel, (2) Deut 30:1-5 The gathering of the Israelites after the Scattering. (3)1 Peter 3:19-20 The preaching of the Gospel to those who are dead since Christ died for the living and the dead also. (4)1 Thess 15:29, For the spirit that are accepted the gospel in the Spirit Prison will have a chance like if they were still alive. (5) The spirit who'd repenting in the Spirit Prison would have a chance to be baptized represented by their relatives or someone who is alive. (6) Malachi 4:5-6, Prophet Elijah will come again to seal the children to parents and parents to their children. With almost 50,000 religions coming out of the same Bible, there's ONE and ONLY ONE religion among these religions who's preached and practiced all these ordinances according to the Bible.

Well presented. It is good to see that Mormons are learning more about the Holy Bible. When I grew up in the church, the Bible was pushed onto the back burner while the Book of Mormon and D&C were the only standard of truth. I was told that the Bible was corrupted so there was little emphasis on it even though we had the Joseph Smith translation. This presentation is very informative.

@@ToOpen6seven Original scripts a d rolls were STOLEN from Jerusalem and Holy Land by catholic crusaders! The compiling of various books was first done by catholic priests. Protestant Reformation brought about scholars translating the scripts again and deciding on content of Bible as is now. Apocrypha books and others were excluded for reasons seemingly valid 1000yrs ago.......NOT TODAY THOUGH. Books like Gospel of Thomas, Enoch, Sirach and many more carry same weight and authenticity as the rest. Catholics reject the Thomas Gospel especially because Yehosua mentioned that keeping the Sabbath is essential! Both Catholics and Protestants have diluted the Holy Scripture so much that a complete investigation and re admitting ALL scripts is necessary!

This is a great work done on the origin of the Bible. And this knowledge makes me question the authenticity of what so called scholars say about what they claim is God 'said'. Following your video, I have come to understand the baises that made it way into the translation. Despite, these shortfalls, I'm privileged to have a copy of the Bible to read, understand and know God for myself; a privilege our ancestors missed due to politics and religious laws.
