I had a stroke in early June that has left me with some lingering physical issues. I decided to follow your zone system and broke my garden up into 5 zones that I tackle Monday through Friday. I use the weekends to catch up on anything i may have missed during the week because of rain or extreme heat and humidity. I do the same indoors. One zone a day gets cleaned and one load of laundry is done per day. Nothing gets too out of hand and I'm not overtaxed physically or mentally.

Luckily, I had no loss of movement after my stroke, just issues with my balance, spatial awareness, loss of or hypersensitivity on my left side, and pins and needles pain on the left. Thank you!!!! Over the winter I got a white board calendar and divided my yard into 5 zones. I assigned my BT Tuesdays and Fertilizer Fridays and saved the extra projects for weekends. My yard is thriving this year and it’s dedicated to you and Aaron. I was never an “outdoors type of girl” but because of my GA knowledge I’m a full on Gardner now. 1 hour to finish a zone, I’m impressed! That would take me all day, mostly because I tend to do one thing then just stop and stare at my work for 15 minutes, partly patting myself on the back for getting the job done, partly trying to cool off and partly imagining what else I can do to improve the space 😂. I’m a very distracted gardener

Before I headed out to run errands, I just took a few minutes the other day to pull a ragweed I'd noticed earlier (I'm extremely allergic). I had my purse in the car and thought, "Why not?" There were also some prickly thistles so before I knew it, I had most of the weeds in my hosta garden pulled.

I love your enthusiasm! Never let the stiffness or aches and pains steal your joy! My grandmother loved gardening and such. No easy task in the Texas panhandle during the 20, dirty 30s and 40s. By the 50s it was a bit easier but she was quite a bit older, too! My grandmother bent over to pull a weed ( it was in her hand when they found her) had a heart attack and was gone! I have often thought to myself that other than out of the blue, in my sleep, what a blessing to be doing what we love and then to open our eyes and see Jesus! Well, that's what I'm looking forward to, anyway! Or, I'm ready to go any time God chooses to send Jesus to come and snatch us up from here to be with Him, forever!!! God's best to you and Happy gardening!!!❤️🦋

When I started making idea boards for landscaping and the layers I wanted to begin to add to my pre-existing garden and then eventually build upon on the PW website (which I love), I found myself creating specific zones for my little over 1/4 acre, including everything from trees to edibles. And when it came time to plant the eleventy billion bare roots and bulbs this fall, I planted by zone. Once I began thinking that way, it has become much easier to think, Monday, garden clean up and winter mulching cottage garden zone or patio garden zone. The previous video was a huge help because I work 70-80 hours a week and can still have a busy and productive garden filled with beautiful things.

I am so glad you showed this type of video. All along I thought, "she has to have a team of yard people for maintenance!" Now I feel inspired again. I'm a lot older than you but I love to garden and I am going to try "your plan" for maintenance. If I can manage it better, I might even think about opening up another space in back for more! Thank you! You always make it look so easy but beautiful. Perfect combo.

Your excellent content narrative, paired with the superb editing laser focuses on the key points of every scene so there is no wasted words or visual distractions... and your garden scenes are so pretty😍! You make the best use of lighting of any garden videographer in the business.

I am a retired RN . Everyday after work , arriving home in scrubs, I would walk through my yard, ck for weeds, monitor my garden and flowers etc. Took about 30 mins ,went inside, showered and threw in a load of laundry. We lived there for 28 years and when we moved our neighbors commented on our efficient daily routine and had even started doing the same thing . Little did I know!

Thank you Laura! Great way to work in the garden & not be overwhelmed!!! I worked in the school system for 30 years. Always had all summer to weed/groom and plant what ever I wanted. Now my hubby & I are retired and camping most of the summer. After a 5 to 10 day camping trip, I come home to a mess! Have been making the flower beds smaller & planting more grass. I'm going to try your weeding zone plan.....want to enjoy my gardens again without being so stressed out after a camping trip! Enjoy your videos sooooo much!🥰

Thank you so much for the garden zone idea! I did a similar thing for my housework, but never thought to carry it over to my garden. I’ve been doing it for about a year now and what a difference it makes! It’s SO true that when I see a weed or a little maintenance issue I know it will be addressed on the appropriate day. Now I enjoy my garden so much more! Thank you again Laura for all of your gardening expertise!

Hello from Germany 🇩🇪 and I am very grateful for your commitment by sharing your garden, life and above all your dedication to tell us your great ideas. This video is so far my most favorite apart from the antiqueing shopping sprees with your mum. I am going to adapt your zone system to my garden. Thank you so much for sharing. Love to Aaron, Benjamin, Samantha and your lovely Mum. Best wishes from a passionate gardener in Germany. ❤️ Love Anja from In Good Nick

This system has helped me SOOOOO much! Every day I'd go out to the garden to do a particular task, & Id end up just pulling weeds, & not getting anything done. Weeding is so therapeutic for me now, now that they're so easy to pull, b/c I never let them get out of control! I do weeding 3 days a week for 30 minutes each day (max) before I do any other tasks (different ''zone" each day) I have "Fertilizer Friday" & then I have 1 dau where i harvest & process veggies & cutflowers, & 1 day where I work on deadheading, tying things up to trellis', & other garden maintenance.

I absolutely loved this video! It was so helpful to see how you handled garden maintenance. I always seem to struggle with garden maintenance especially this time of the year. The weather has been really hot with high humidity( usually above 80%) so being outside is not very pleasant. Having things in a zone makes it seem much more manageable. Obviously since we are coming off this hot weather I have some catch up to do but thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks for taking us along today! I'm going to try this in my own garden, which is much smaller than yours, but can overwhelm me with the upkeep and the plans for adjusting certain areas and adding new ones. I'm also going to use this method inside my house...I have a lot to clean out for reorganization and donation and then a little light redecorating. This too can be so overwhelming with everyday life. Thanks for the inspiration!😊

Wow! I thought I had a lot of roses, around 55, and I have found that amount totally overwhelming especially when it's pruning time. But the zoning idea could really make the difference to keep the overwhelm under control.

Great life lessons here, not just for gardening! It is apparent, the key to not being overwhelmed is: forming good habits that become automatic and compartmentalisation.

I need to adopt this manageable system as I do become overwhelmed by my garden and end up with areas that get out of hand. I inherited my garden when I bought my house and I've slowly been removing shrubs that were either too big, diseased or I simply didn't like. You helped me to get to point where I can remove something I don't like and not feel overly guilty. Now if only mother nature would cooperate and start the transition to crisp autumn weather I will finally start yanking out the old rose bushes that need to go!
