Sparkling water.... the type of water that has become so popular in recent times. We wanted to share how we make sparkling water at home that's NOT a Sodastream or any other machine like it. It's an alternative that we researched and have been using for a few years now. We've even converted a few family members onto this system since they are avid sparkling, bubbly water drinkers. In the long run, this has turned out to be a much cheaper option for us.

Since you're comfortable with these co2 tanks, did you think about buying an adapter to refill those sodastream canisters with these co2 tanks? But this method is intriguing as well, completely cutting out the middleman accessories, and connecting straight to readily available 2 liter bottles. Hmm, gonna have to consider this.

Is the carbonation from the big tank better, stronger of different than the bubbles the soda stream provides? Thank you, awesome vid!
@NadiaandRob
@NadiaandRob 6 ай бұрын
YES! Sodastream carbonates at 15-20 PSI pressure. We have our regulator set to 60 PSI... so more CO2 is forced into the water. Much better carbonation results.

@@NadiaandRobHow? The link you provided says this tank only maximally takes 20 PSI..
@NadiaandRob
@NadiaandRob 2 ай бұрын
@@TSG-td3jr the tank holds 20 lb of co2 gas. But it’s at a much higher pressure (over 1000 PSI, or pounds per square inch). The regulator controls how high the pressure of the gas exits the tank (around 60 PSI). It is confusing…. But the 20lb measures how much gas is in the tank. The PSI measures how much pressure it’s under. Hope that clarifies.

Hi Rob in the Tiperite sie there's a variety of regulators, some of them are primary some are not, some say beer and wine some say soft drinks . I'm lost here. I cannot tell what's the difference between them let alone find the one is ideal for doing what you do. Can you clarify please? Alternatively, can you provide the reference (model) of your regulator?

Hi, The one that was recommended by our local brewing supply is the Taprite T742HP-02. It's a dual guage regulator for CO2, meant for beer carbonation. It has a 60 PSI maximum, which is perfect for what we're doing. Hope that helps.

Help... I bought the 5lb tank. Regulator..hose..special caps (not the kit). Set at 50psi and placed on cold water bottle from refrigerator. Turned the tank on and all I get is a few bubbles when I turn the bottle up.. Not the great rush you get on the video. I unscrewed the bottle and turned the tank on.. to me it did not seem to be 50psi. The 5lb bottle say it has 700lbs. So is the regulator not working properly...???

One thing .... is the stop valve on the regulator open? Check this video for details: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmaninmhZ8aGsJosi=DAPuzwCi3Y7nJ58B&t=590 . The little handle should be in line with the hose. When my 5 lb tank is full it registers around 1200 PSI.Hope that helps!

Will the pressure regulator work with a CO2 tank that has a siphon tube?
@NadiaandRob
@NadiaandRob Ай бұрын
I'm not sure what a siphon tube is.
@pequodexpress
@pequodexpress Ай бұрын
@@NadiaandRob It's a stainless steel tube that siphons liquid Co2 from the tank instead of emitting the Co2 as a gas. It is recommended for refilling Sodastream canisters. A few years ago, I started with a SodaStream machine and refiling the canisters from a donor tank that I had to turn upside down for refilling. About eight months ago, I got around to having a siphon tube installed in my 20LB tank, which was supposed to make refilling the canisters quicker and more efficient, and I have been nothing but disappointed with the results, so now I am coming around to your way of doing things and was wondering if I can use my tank with its siphon tube. The last couple weeks of research and the last few days' experience with a regulator on my tank tell me "No, I cannot." Or, at least, "No, I should not," because the results are better when diffusing Co2 gas in water. I also read that dispersing liquified Co2 with a siphon tube wastes a lot of Co2, which definitely seems to be the case, as it is already time for me to refill my 20LB tank again, and I got nowhere near as many liters of carbonated water as I did during the two years I used the tank on its first fill and without a siphon tube.

Would it be possible to use this method with a glass bottle rather than plastic?

I don’t think it’s a good idea. I don’t think the threads for the cap are the same and I would hate if something went wrong and glass exploded
@Mark-ks9jj

Carbonating glass bottles is extremely dangerous in comparison to using PET bottles as they don’t explode like a shrapnel bomb. The PET bottles are intrinsically more resilient and 60psi won’t split them.

Good day.. I have watched your videos.. I am looking to invest in the co2 tank system... the question i have is.... I know you dispense in a plastic bottle.. I want to dispense in the "swing bottle" individually... and not sure IF i would use the attachment you show for the plastic bottle IF they would fit on those.. kinda like when someone brews beer with individual bottles a home brewer. BUT will it lose FIZZ if i transfer from the plastic bottle to a bottle.. or directly into a bottle taking off the attachment as you show that is on the plastic bottle.. and then cap the swing bottle.. or IF it loses fizz if it can dispense with that attachment on the swing bottle take off the attachment and cap the swing bottle??? do you know how to do this without losing the FIZZ .. and can you do a video or just explain to me... I appreciate you and your knowledge! thank you... debora
@NadiaandRob
@NadiaandRob Жыл бұрын
Hi Car Dawg, Thanks for watching our videos. You wouldn't be able to use the carbonation cap on the swing top bottle. It's threaded to fit on plastic soda bottles. However, you can easily carbonate in the plastic bottles, and then transfer to the swing top bottle, and seal it. If you do the carbonation and the transfer while the liquid is still cold, you won't lose too much fizz. Also, don't leave too much air space in the swing top bottle. That way the pressure will build up quickly and you won't lose carbonation. The more CO2 you force into the water in the process, the leaas you're likely to lose fizz when you transfer and re-seal. So be sure your water is chilled very close to freezing, and carbonate, open anr re-carbonate two ot three times, and you'll have plenty of fizz in you final bottles! Give that a try, and let us know how it works! Thanks, Nadia and Rob

How long is the 5lb tank lasting you?
@NadiaandRob
@NadiaandRob Жыл бұрын
Hi OA. We drink at least 2 liters per day, probably more in the summer. The 5 lb tank lasts around 5 months. I’ve found it helps to close the valve at the top of the tank (the big handle) to prevent any tiny leaks from reducing the capacity.
@NadiaandRob
@NadiaandRob Жыл бұрын
OA… your question got me thinking…. And measuring! I weighed our 2lt water bottle, zeroed the scale, and carbonated the water as usual and weighed. Much to my surprise, 16g of CO2 went into the bottle! So then I started calculating… 5lb tank holds 2268g of CO2, divide by 16g…. So the 5lb tank will do 141.75 bottles. At 1 per day average, that should last around 4.75 months! Wow… so a $25 refill will carbonate around 280 liters of water and last around 4 ½ months if you drink 2 liters a day. Now that’s cost effective! Thanks for inspiring my scientific nature!
