I absolutely love to hear God included in the picture. I've been with my husband for twenty years, but we've only been married for seven, after our seventh child was born. When we finally committed ourselves before God, that's when we really fell in true love. We thought we loved each other before, but something magical took place at the altar. When we were prayed over, there was electricity, and we both felt it. We have a bond now that wasn't there before, it's like we're truly one. I also really love how old fashion you are, and unapologetically too! I have become the same way, and it's a beautiful thing.

As someone who is marrying for the first time, at 52, I can say to all those younger people out there to keep working on yourself and all that you wish to offer to others. There is superficial attraction and then there is that true compatibility that can take many years to manifest in front of you. My fiance is a widower and will be 61 when we marry. We discovered so many things in common but we would never have got together when we were younger because our life paths were on quite different tracks. I am so happy to be with my fiance and I can tell you that every day of happiness when you are older is a complete gift. You all have so much to look forward to; stay positive.

I had to chuckle, because when I found out my boyfriend had been to therapy before it made me not only more attracted to him but also understand where his emotional compassion and intelligence came from 😆 He’s French, so I get what you mean about it still not being so common culturally- but thank you for including this! Thanks for sharing this "How we met story" - which is (almost) always interesting and often so touching - like yours. My wife and I met because we had a common acquaintance who was telling each of us - until we were sick and tired of it - how much we would fit together. Our first, for different reasons not really very successful date was only to prove that we did not fit and she could stop her matchmaking. The rest is history. Our story obviously is different from yours but we share one essential thing with you: commitment. A few weeks ago when we had our 32nd wedding anniversary and met with children and grandchildren I reminded all of them and all of us what the secret of our enduring happy marriage was. I referred to one of the ingenious final scenes of "Pretty Woman": as a man you have to admit that you have to be saved and let her do it. As a woman you have to want to be saved by him. :-)

What you said about "not hitting below the belt" that is a wonderful sign of love and respect. I shy away from anger and contempt when in disagreement. From personal experience, the pain from angry words do not go away after an apology. Words can hurt very deeply, and there is no physical mark. So happy for the two of you.
