Beautiful ! I rescued a temple from the scrap yard several years ago , I paid $130 for it it is 35" wide and ways over 100 pounds. It is in excellent condition . The inscription on it says it was made by a company called Kinriushi produced in the first 10 days of August 1746' , Honkoku Temple in Kyoto Japan . I had the college language dept. translate it for me. I love this bell ! I clamped a small mirror on the rim and aimed a small laser at it reflecting it off 3 larger mirrors to increase the size of the reflected image ,it throws a circular loop of light on the wall that depending on the strike or combination of strikes the circle turns into an undulating loop that makes a reversing figure 8 and other shapes it`s a lot of fun !

In my mid-twenties, when I was suffering from severe panic attacks, I wanted to escape the world and become a bell ringer in a monastery. I wanted to go to a Benedictine monastery, and look up at the bell tower, and hang on a rope like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I wanted to be a bell ringer, and fly away from the pitying gazes. Only with this emotional desire, the monastery did not open its doors, and now I am waiting outside the monastery for that moment of desire. In this hermitage, at 7 a.m., an old nun, hanging on a long rope, rings the bell. Sometimes, when I lean inside the door, it seems as if she has not yet handed me over to the bell ringer. Today is Schubert, tomorrow is Gounod's Ave Maria at Sunset.

Thank you Madeleine - an interesting comment, we have wondered whether people listening would like to know a little more about the bowls. We can recommend a book called Himalayan Singing Bowls by Frank Perry - he talks about different types of singing bowls. We first bought a few small Japanese Temple Bells out of curiosity and really love the sounds. The techniques we use, the sining bowl wands and mallets have been gathered over the years - I've had many teachers but the biggest teachers are the bowls themselves and we learn to listen, deeply listen to how they sound together and separately, how they weave sounds to create different responses. Maybe we'll get round to creating a couple of videos on techniques and timing - there's always so many ideas. Apologies for the delayed response I missed your comment. Best wishes - Pam

Thank you both so much. May i ask what inspired the both you to collect so many types of bowls? Why is this so important for the both of you? Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
@sound-and-silence2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tara, Thank you for watching and your comment and question. We started to collect different singing bowls and instruments because we were curious to hear the different sounds they made and how the different sounds combined to create new overtones and interact with each other to produce pusling sounds. The different sounds also have different effects on the listener and it takes time to experiment with different instruments to discover what works and lastly we enjoy playing and working with the different sounds. Best wishes Jurek and Pam

@@sound-and-silence thank you for posting! Never seen or heard Japanese temple bells before. Where do you get the large ones? Thank you
@sound-and-silence Жыл бұрын
@@anthonyman8008 am so sorry for the delayed reply I didn't see your post. Jurek buys them from different sellers on ebay or at auctions in the UK as they occasionally come up for sale. Buying from e bay means that you can ask for a sound clip of the Bell whereas from auctions unless you can visit a pre-sale view you never really know what you're going to get. Best wishes - Pam
