I missed mentioning that lettuce can self-pollinate, which means it's less likely to cross-pollinate than other plants. It's a great choice as a first plant to seed save from. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Just found your channel and I love, love, love it. I know you are going to be a favorite to watch. I’m 65 and just love watching wonderful families doing the things we did as kid. Sure wish more kids had these experiences. I live in New Mexico but my mom was born in Alaska. We had fruit trees, pecan trees and an acre garden and a whole field of asparagus. I think I had the best life ever as a kid growing up in the country. 🥰

I grew some white bush dry beans and black beans for the first time this year. Planted five of each kind. Got a pint of the black beans but just a handful of the white. That’s one pot of soup, lol. Its been such a warm dry fall that most of my pods dried on the vine making harvesting super easy. So satisfying to grow them! Your beans are so pretty. 🫘

If you store your popcorn in the freezer, you will get much better results from popping. I had a batch of popcorn that did not pop hardly at all. A friend told me to store the bag in the freezer and the next time I tried popping corn, almost all of them popped. Just an FYI

Tk u for sharing ur time and knowledge w/ us! My dad loved gardening & saved seeds. Years ago when visiting my parents in Va., we went to Monticello historical site (Tomas Jefferson's home). 5:44 "Hopefully". The point I try to make. Growing seeds for commercial sale, one needs to have zero chance of cross pollination. Not so for personal use. The chances of cross pollination drops off very fast as they get separated more from zero, initially. as distance gets greater, moving them further gives less and less benefit. So, across the garden, there is little chance of cross pollination. But to get to zero chance, you have to separate them at a much greater distance.

If you know how to harvest seeds, why do you buy so many seeds? That's some tiny popcorn. Every year I like to gift different kinds of popcorn treats. Some have different spice combinations, cheeses, caramels, chocolates and candies. Example: when popping corn, add skittles to the pot and you'll get a colorful and fruity flavored popcorn. A lot of folks like the parmesan cheese, chili powder and lime zest or the Moroccan season blend the most for the savory versions, but a spicy jerk seasoning is popular too. The top sweet versions are are white, milk and dark chocolates, caramel, salted caramel and toffee, or a combination of those, the kids love the skittles and the buttery cinnamon sugar drizzle the most. A new one that hasn't been tried out on many folks yet, but loved by those that have tried it, has dehydrated vegetables ground into powder, including onions, bell peppers, carrots, tomato powder and garlic powder. Been doing this a while and can pretty much predict what most friends would like. Some are gifted in tins and some in paper bags. When taking snacks to farm workers or hospital waiting rooms, paper bags are the best choice, and just write on the bag which flavors are inside, and it's nice to attach a napkin to the bag too. Usually just one fold in the paper bag and staple it with the tip of a napkin.
