You mentioned the cost of eating out here in the UK. Wetherspoons are a pub and restaurant chain with locations in every town and city, offering good basic food at the most affordable prices you'll find. They also aim to serve your order within about 13 minutes and offer free refills for hot drinks. They are also almost always located in a large building of historical interest.
