UPDATE: In this video we were pasteurizing for 12 hours. Not only is that not necessary, but it can overcook the substrate and render it useless. Now we only cook it for 4 hours and that works perfect.

4 hours at 200 degrees? What is the contamination rate with that configuration? mushlov from Chile

@@brayanignacio5828 This is the industry standard in asia and has made its way over to the US. Contam rate is around 2-4%

There is no such thing as an atmospheric sterilizer above 100 degrees, right?

Hey, just wondered how do u unload and transport all the blocks once they've been Heya treated? How do u keep them form being contaminated between the steamer and your inoculation set up. Thanks
@harmonymushroomco Жыл бұрын
We unload onto rolling racks in the open air, and then wheel them into the lab. The bags have a hermetic seal coming out of the steam tank so they are able to stay clean enough, our contamination rate is still really low, like 5 out of 140 bags. Ideally we would unload them directly into the lab, but we are using what is available and the layout of the buildings that we have access to. I encourage you to use what you have and be resourceful! Good luck!

Have you had any mold growing on your substrate and what do you think contributed to that mold?
@harmonymushroomco8 ай бұрын
Mold is common in the industry, it usually boils down to improper sterilization (not hot enough or long enough) or poor lab techniques / lack of sterile procedure Good luck!

Is this a sterilizer or pasteurizer? You mention doing substrate, do you use it for grain too?

It pasteurizes but I have seen people use the same system for grain and it works just fine. let me know!

Any issues with neighbors and odor pasteurizing outside? Curious what streaming substrate smells like.
@harmonymushroomco7 ай бұрын
Hi j155p! That is a GREAT question. First of all, pasteurizing substrate just smells like steamy wood and dirt really, nothing obtuse. I have a great relationship with the whole neighborhood, and I'm very grateful to have amazing neighbors who like having a mushroom farm on their street. However, I used to watch a channel (jewel's gardening? or jewel's mushroom farm or something?) and her mushroom farm was shut down because the neighbors at her commercial business park property did not like the smell of pasteurizing substrate. So, if you can make good with your neighbors and give them free mushrooms, you should have no problems :)
@J155P7 ай бұрын
@@harmonymushroomcoGood tip! Yeah, I followed Jewel as well 👍 Learned a lot from her. Too bad she didn't find the right spot. That was back in like 2018 or so...only wish I would've kept going. Just getting back into it deeper than ever. Your channel is very inspiring man. I'm going to make a run at this and see where it takes me!

Can you steralize spawn in this steam tank? Or judt pasturizing sub?
@harmonymushroomco10 ай бұрын
I'm PRETTY sure you can sterilize your spawn in here, I think Liquid fungi uses a very similar system for all of their spawn. Some people say you can't but I've seen it done! Good luck :)

If you can find barrels that had any kind of juice in them, they won't rust because of a special coating (I guess for the acidic juice). Also, placing a wet towel on your rack (on the false bottom) will help keep your bags from burning or getting grill marks. You can also do the same all around the sides if they're getting burnt.
