The waves get massive here in Hawaii with what is for sure the biggest swell this season. A lot of people went to Jaws but I decided to stay here and surf Waimea bay with ‪@JJF‬ and ‪@eli_olson‬ In this video i'll explain how we are able to survive surfing massive waves!

My favourite part of your videos is that even though I'm at home in Canada in wintertime, for at least a few minutes I feel like I'm in Hawaii. Keep it rolling

Its crazy that there are that many people who are keen to paddle out in 30 ft surf that it can be dangerously crowded.

Paddle in at big Waimea takes courage . (Done that w/o vest, like the explanation of the vest though) Kudos to all ya’ll. Especially like the idea of interviewing the men maybe some women who are the first responders of Waimea and Ehukai Beach Park ( Pipe). I never saw a woman life guard at either break when it’s big. I assume there some now. It’s 45 years since I dropped in at either break. 70 year old Florida long boarder now. Made here stayed here. Thanks for your work. I relive the best days of my life through you. 😊

Nice cut with the lifeguard on the megaphone 📣. I've been there one time. How come the deepest guy rule doesn't seem to apply at Waimea? You were almost always the deepest guy. I surfed there a few times when I lived in Hawaii in the eighties, not quite that big though. lol! Same thing back then, everyone just charging and taking off no matter how many guys on a wave! Rocky Point was also my favorite break! 🤙

It's one of those spots where every wave is a party wave. The wave peaks in a narrow area, which causes the lineup to be clustered in a small crowded area. The drop is somewhat steep and heavy, but it breaks slowly and mushily and almost never closes out, so each wave can accommodate many riders at once.
@Joel-McConnell
@Joel-McConnell Жыл бұрын

well at least the safety vest was red instead of black - making it easier to see someone surfing and to find them fast in a wipe out .... BUT perhaps fluorescent Orange with reflective tape like the road construction workers ware ? a mere 1000th of a second with finding you faster in a wipe out ,could mean life or death if a jet ski can't find you fast enough...
