My partner and I hauled diesel fuel from a USN ship to the New Orleans airport after Hurricane Katrina. We had armed escort vehicle leading and trailing us in both directions. We shared a bunk room with other drivers who were also hauling fuel and the navy fed us. Never any gasoline, just diesel fuel and some JP-4 for the helicopters.

Have you thought about installing rv type small 12”x22” bathroom windows on each bunk room wall for allowing cross fresh air exchange? This looks very good.
@ParkerSystems
@ParkerSystems 3 ай бұрын
I have. Actually bought them for the first unit. However, we way we utilize the trailers all they would then require is to be covered. As to the fresh air, when the trailer is operated the circulation fan for the hvac runs continuously and the system operates pressurized with 15 percent make up air and a separate dehumidifier to maintain the humidity as the hvac is way over capacity 5 tons …. Great question. Thanks for watching

Wouldn’t it be easier to just rebuild a surplus M969 Military tank trailer? They can haul and dispense bulk fuel, while also setup already for dispensing to vehicles, fuel filters, and can hold 2 different products at once.

@ralan350
@ralan350 6 ай бұрын
The military fuel tankers are not divided internally with separate tanks all they have is baffles to reduce slosh so instead of being able to haul multiple types of fuel you can only haul one type of fuel…… so you would need a separate tanker for each type of fuel additionally they are very heavy the 969 and the 967 only hold 5000 gallons that tanker has a capacity of 9000 gallons and realistically speaking probably doesn’t weigh too much more fully loaded military tanker

Looks good! Although I'd be concerned about sparks from the anderson connectors igniting the vapours...
@ParkerSystems
@ParkerSystems 6 ай бұрын
That is a great point. We currently handle that issue with a procedure. The pump is verified off the connection to the truck is verified disconnected the fuel or vent has not been opened. Then the tractor connection is made. That way the sparks associated with the motor switching happens with the motor control housing that is sealed. I am looking for a sealed connection. Those motors pull under 30 amps. So if I could find a sealed rated connection I would change it to prevent that spark if someone connected the tractor first, opened the fuel or vent, mistakenly connected the tractor power and inserted the cable with the pump on. I know that’s a lot of what ifs. But I think it would be better. Great pickup. Thanks for watching.
@ParkerSystems

As a second point. I found lots of connections that are rated once they are mated, but our issue is a connector that will rate while being made up or connected….. thanks again for the question.

Reminiscent of a military FARP (Foreward Area Refueling Point). Those systems would of course allow staging other dispensing options then filling fuel bladders for local forward storage and dispensing. Anyone in the business should read a bit on FARPs to perhaps get useful ideas for their projected situation.

It’s interesting that during an emergency situation that one would worry about on and off road diesel. Are the Feds that idiotic? Too bad over in my part of the world they don’t have the brains to setup equipment like this. Sometimes I wonder why I left the states. In this country if you have an emergency generator that runs on diesel the government compels one to run it on the more expensive road diesel. Not for this guy the emergency feed goes straight to my heating oil tank. Anyone trespassing on my property will meet a sentry dog from the USMC that will hold them at bay until I get them in handcuffs. You guys Rock! It’s nice to have a setup for each issue for emergency services.

At a disaster scene, do you work in a fenced yard or does local law enforcement provide you with on-scene security??
@ParkerSystems
@ParkerSystems 6 ай бұрын
It depends on the location. We have had both and a combination of differing circumstances. We have staged inside the government compounds that were fenced with security guards, the local government have taken over fair grounds… we have had private companies step up and provide us space, baseball stadiums, etc. They typically all come with police security, you have to remember the reason we are there is to turn the 911 center and communications back on these organizations are trying to make sure we get them back on the air as quickly as possible…. They always take care of us. Probably isn’t necessary most of my guys are pretty handy with personnel responsibility and the attributes and tools necessary to ensure their personnel safety and that of our team.

When pumping fuel to your customer, how do you meter it?
@ParkerSystems
@ParkerSystems 6 ай бұрын
On a typical deployment all our users are our customers and our equipment, metering is not required. We have a clip in flow meter that connects in like our filters if we had to measure small quantities…. This is where I may get a little push back for being a geek … the tank is an ellipse so you can use calculus to determine the volume of slices so I generated the volume of 1 inch slices thru each of the 4 tanks and get to with 3-8 gallons my simply measuring the depths. But like I said we never need to do this. Great question. Fun fact did you know they sell gasoline based on temperature…. When you load they created an offset based on the outside temp.
@SuperDriver379
@SuperDriver379 6 ай бұрын
You could outfit one of these trailers with a hard mounted double diaphragm pump where your front toolbox is and use your air to pump fuel with a mounted filter and hose reel, just attach it to your load head with a flexible line.
@ParkerSystems
@ParkerSystems 6 ай бұрын
That's a great idea! We'll look into that. We keep our trucks idling anyway so the air wouldn't be a problem. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@ParkerSystems air is already plumbed on the trailer so it wouldn’t be as intrusive as needing 15-20 amps of 12v to run the electric pumps and most of them are serviceable so you could keep parts or a whole spare pump for redundancy. Just an idea to look into. Never hurts to have too many options when it comes to functionality in a disaster area.
