This guy is an awesome teacher. He answers ALL the questions I want to ask and even the ones I know I will be asking as I learn how to work with my collar. Brilliant educator!

#1 lesson/rule to using an E-Collar (IMO) is teaching people that not all collars are the same. And need to be buying a good collar/brand (not a cheap, one level only, type) one with a rheostat and/or digital adjustable level of correction, along with a vibrate only button

Huge huge respect for being honest and actually using the correct terms and not being apologetic for negative reinforcement and punishment. I am a former balanced trainer that has evolved into force free training. That being said, I would love to have you discuss your philosophy and methodology on my podcast.

May I ask what motivator you had that evolved you to force-free dog draining?

We use a satellite invisible fence (SpotOn) to keep our Sheepadoodle from leaving our yard and he responds to very well to it. He is also trained using a HS prong collar and walks very nicely with it - no pulling and not responsive to other dogs/wildlife any more- (Yay!!) . I would now like to start him on e- collar training for our walks, etc but am concerned about him becoming confused by the stimulation from the satellite fence vs the stim from the e collar. Can I use both successfully or must I choose one or the other? Can you give me some advice about this before I purchase a collar?

In the proofing phase you aren’t giving the command and the stim simultaneously are you? I think that’s a bit unclear in how it is written. I imagine it would be only if the dog does not respond to command.

If u understand negative reenforcement your on ur way to e collar glory

Curious to learn if/how the e-collar is used to cross the threshold from negative reinforcement to positive punishment. I've been using the prong to punish leash reactivity towards other dogs, and have thankfully seen so much improvement, but I hate having to prong correct in public. Would much rather be discreetly doing it with the e-collar, which he wears for negative reinforcement on walks anyways.

Question!! In intermittent phase, you give dog a chance to, for example, follow through on recall without stim first, and if they do not follow through, you re-do command with stim. To be clear, on proofing phase, we stim on med/high first time command is said? No initial chance for them to follow through without stim first? Hope my question makes sense.

I have the Garmin Sport Pro e-collar for my dog. It only has 10 stim levels, vibrate and tone. Should I purchase the mini educator instead because it has more levels or does it solely depend on how my dog responds?

I have a long-haired Saint Bernard. I'm using the educator mini with wing contact points. I bought the wing contact points made of titanium to avoid a skin reaction. I fit the collar around his neck so I can put two fingers beneath the collar. we just completed the conditioning stage and he's always itching the collar.Is this something that should stop once he gets more used to wearing the collar?. I currently have him wearing the collar for about 5 to 6 hours a day and changing the position of the collar to avoid any sores. I do brush out his neck everyday to get rid of the dead hair.

- Rotate the collar more frequently - Only have it tight 20 mins before, during, and 20 mins after training sessions - If he's wearing it around the house, keep it loose - If he scratches at it training sessions, discourage the behavior by making leash pressure and keeping him moving. Some dogs will learn to scratch at the collar as an avoidance behavior.

This is very good and useful. My dog was trained with e collar but then due to my freaking job I had no time to walk him for like a 6 months to a year. And guess what - he forgot how it works. So now I need to reintroduce it.

OK, but when I am competing, there can be no training collars....how is this navigated?
@princearjuna64562 ай бұрын
I don't believe this video was designed with competition in mind.
@lukeryuzaki23282 ай бұрын
General speaking, you should go do research on how to prevent dog to become collar wise. There is tricks and and all for different breeds and different situation, but if you want to compete you need to become more knowledgeable yourself. You should seek a mentor and follow a whole training regime. Else, nobody would help you since you're just experimenting with your dog while placing expectation on it, while you're severely lacking in skill and knowledge. If you're experimenting, just train your dog to do basic obedience while developing your skill and knowledge.

Can you use a lead? What are you competing in?
@sarahtenbensel22312 ай бұрын
@patmunro3531 most dog sports do not use leashes during competition
@patmunro35312 ай бұрын
@@sarahtenbensel2231 When I started competing there were levels eg., Puppy [6=12 momths], Junior, etc. Only the higher levels didn't allow leads.
