Take your dog from completely untrained to 100% OFF-LEASH trained in 8-weeks: www.hamiltondogtraining.co/
In this video, we cover why we use the prong collar, how it’s used in our training, what prong collar to buy, how to size/fit a prong collar, and how to condition the prong collar properly.
Remember, the prong collar will not fix your dog’s problems, only training can do that. Be responsible, be fair to your dog, and don’t use this tool without a clear plan.

I concur! Some of these other dog trainers are so off base as far as dog behavior goes, I can't believe they have such a following. I feel sorry for the humans who start applying bad advice, which negatively impacts them & their dogs. Canines can teach us so much about ourselves & deserve committed humans to care for them properly.

I am a retired school teacher and usually these training videos are hard to watch because the teaching is not good, even if the info they are giving is good. You, young man, are an excellent teacher! I’m sure you hear this all the time, but it’s never a bad thing to get another compliment, and you deserve each and every one of them. I’m going to do all that you suggest and them move to the video on stopping leash pulling. Thanks!!

Just wow 🤩 I signed my two year old pit up for 6 week training at PetSmart. I was very discouraged when I got there and the trainer could barely make eye contact with him because of how scared she was. He’s not at all aggressive just reactive. I wish I would’ve came across your videos before spending my money 😭 but to be honest she definitely pushed me to get really serious about his training.

Also important what he said about, "I'll teach that later." Dogs cannot learn too many things at the same time. Get one command down during a session, not multiple. And stop training session when the dog is successful with that command , then in afternoon or the next day repeat same sucesssful command. Once the dog gets it, then move to the next thing to train; in this case, its the jumping behavior.

This was OUTSTANDING. You explained everything about the collar beautifully, and you explained and then demonstrated exactly how to use it. This ought to be required viewing for anybody who has the least interest in prong collars, and ESPECIALLY for the people who think they're cruel. If I had a dog that needed training I'd take him to you in a minute. Well done!

I used the Herm prong collar for the first time on my 1 year old Golden. Great dog but would pull, jump, chase, etc. like some dogs just do. I couldn’t believe the results. After a few light corrections, she was healing for our entire walk. She has never done that!!! Great tool!!!

I used it and followed step by step everything you said and men . I wish I saw this video years ago. You are a super good trainer . I have a Pitbull. He is reactive on the leach and gets scared and start acting out. As soon as I did what you showed in this class , it was a total game changer. My dog was super good on the walk and no reactive. He was a little miss behave at the beginning but like 10 minutes later of me walking back and forth and applying the techniques you showed here he completely changed and started acting calm and looking at me for guidance. Thank you for your classes

I like how you explain things so clearly, and I like your channel since the first video I've watched about how dogs think and learn. That was an absolute gem! Some people anthropomorphize dogs by human intelligence, logic, emotion on them; but these people don't just treat dogs as human, they worship dog as some kind fragile but incredible emotional intelligent being (which is untrue of course). If these people actually treat dogs like human, they wouldn't argue against applying all 4 quadrant of operant conditioning/instrumental conditioning, since it's widely applied psychology theory in human society. They chose to be ignorant about it when even high schooler level psychology class would cover this.

I love the way you explain concepts. You succinctly explained why I have one dog I will never need a prong collar (she is soft, and her subjective perception of pressure is a sternly uttered “uh-uh” ) vs GSD cross rescue completely untrained as a puppy who I has high prey drive and dog reactivity - waaay over to the right on the graph - and I do use a prong on him. Fairly and consistently. A scalpel is a dangerous tool in the wrong hands - in the hands of a skilled surgeon it can save lives. The positive only gang might benefit from understanding this concept (or maybe they think surgery for cancer is too “invasive” or “cruel” - maybe they believe you can fix it with happy unicorn thoughts and treats?

This is super helpful as I have a overly reactive 6 mo old cattle dog that needs this next level of ‘communication’ control. Her Brother just went through introduction of a prong collar with my husband and professional trainer. Let it be known she warned some dogs can really freak when they feel even gentle pressure at first because of that opposition reflex. Well Shasta screamed and flopped around like the drama king he is. It was ugly even though the trainer wasn’t hurting him. Took only a minute and he figured it out and has been fine after that. Just a warning for anyone trying this some dogs don’t react, some react a little, and some freak the F out. But they will figure it out. Now it’s my turn with sister Lucy. Thanks for this video!

I found this training to be the best I have ever done. This guy is excellent. I just ordered my Herm Springer collar from an official Herm Springer store & can't wait for it to get here. I have been using a generic version the wrong way! I adopted a border collie mix 2 years ago and she's so stubborn, actually has pulled me off of my feet, landing face first in the dirt 3 times and knocked me over once! I think these training techniques will help. I was ready to give her up as walking her is a nightmare because she is so strong and stubborn. Anyway, thank you for sharing these videos with us. They make perfect sense, and I can see where I was confusing her, and hopefully, we can continue this journey in life together! It would break my heart to have to rehome her!

I'm going to start from the beginning, following your steps, and hope for similar success - but it may be too late. A side note: he is not a puller and had learned loose leash walking from an early age. For quite some time the prong was very effective for my 120+ pound dog in high stimulus areas - until he learned that mom isn't very strong...if I bolt without any warning she let's go of the leash - instant reward! When I was young, my reflexes were spot on - I could jerk back at the exact moment and my dogs learned, quickly, not to lunge or bolt. Recently, my current dog tried just bolting - my instincts knew I would fall flat on my face and probably break something in the process (and he would be free anyway - so self protection takes over). After the first time, I knew he was testing me...he did it again, the very next day - for no reason. He had my number and now does it whenever he feels the reward of freedom is worth the short lived pain. I no longer take him for any walks or anything - because I can't take the chance that he breaks free and hurts something, including myself, in the process. I can tell you, he absolutely loves his new found knowledge - but now is stuck indoors until I regain my role.

LOVED when you put this on your own neck - what a great way to show the right way! I do have a question about when you use the e-stim collar and the prong - both of them are supposed to be up behind the ears and up high on the neck - my challenge is having them both up there - and e-Stim the highest up then the prong. Thoughts?

I've already seen a few of your videos and appreciate the way you convey things calmly and objectively. You also have a good concept, which makes it easier to follow you. Thank you very much for your work and everything you show us here for free. Here in Germany, prong collars and e-collars have been banned since 2021. However, the police still train dogs in this way. We owe the ban to all the idiots who misuse these tools and cause massive harm to animals. Anyways.. I have a 1.5-year-old female Rottweiler who accompanies me everywhere. I invest a lot of time in training because it's also a lot of fun. I acquired my knowledge from books and KZbin. Lately she has been reacting to other dogs outside, and so far without any recognizable regularity for me. We walk through our residential area without a leash, she used to COMPLETELY ignore other dogs, even when they barked at her, etc. When she reacts to dogs, she does nothing more than approach them. She has no aggression problem, she has never shown such behavior. Nevertheless, it bothers me a lot and I have the feeling it's getting worse. It causes me stress. I have to do something about it. I think I will buy your program at the beginning of next year when places are available again. Can’t wait to work on it with new techniques and getting it fixed.

Also true, that we don't give the dose enough time to think. For instance, a person will give the "sit" command and before the dog has an opportunity to process the command, the owner is repeating, "sit, sit, sit."

Great video. I wish you would show to do corrections, how to snap the collar. My dog is stronger then me. He weighs like 20lbs less then me, so when I do corrections, I have to be on point. Meaning, I have to snap right when he pulls in the opposite direction. Otherwise, he's faster and strong and, therefore, just pulls me. How do a do a strong correction at this point

Make certain treat rewards are quick so your dog understands the connection. If dog is waiting too long for the treat following positive behavior, the association will not be made. His added "chirp," sound following the behavior and just before treat is an added association.

Unfortunately, Amazon warehouses sort into bins by the bar code. A counterfeiter can put the bar code on it and be put into the same bin.

I’m not certain that I’ve seen you address small breeds for this technique, I assume it’s the same for all dogs? Are there prong collars for small breeds?

What's the less amount of Links can be removed to still work as designed ? I'm trying some training with a 3 1/2 year old and want to introduce this just in small stints of training when we do our walks around the neighborhood. Thanks for your response. Ignore as this was answered with your dog where you took out 5 Prongs.
