Another great video! I was married to a Canadian that was from British Columbia! I'm from Washington state so it wasn't very far to visit her parents!

14 open, how many were heifers?? Please post your final decisions on keep or sell.

2 heifers, I explain in the next video...

What do you usually average percentage wise for open cows?
@TwinElmFarmsАй бұрын
Typically, we have run around 5 percent. This year was 8, and we also pulled the bulls a bit earlier trying to tighten our group up. We really want calving to be over before we hit the fields. Our vet says 7 percent is typical

I know it’s so different conditions to here in Australia but u guys should have a look at the Australian cattle yard handling systems. Honestly you guys are 5 years behind as far as ease efficiency and animal welfare is concerned. I know you won’t agree but it’s worth having a look
@TwinElmFarmsАй бұрын
Lol oh we are much further than 5 years... we are only 8 years in since we started this cattle thing. I'm all ears in learning but I feel one can only do/ buy/ build in a year.

@@TwinElmFarms I’m not saying that what you do is wrong I love watching your videos and understand that we don’t have the snow and extreme wet weather that you guys have but if you have a look at a couple of yard manufacturers like Thompson Longhorn and Proway their handling systems are magnificent

@@barryryan4234I just got back from tamworth Australia for a visit. Just baffled me how much hay is produced there. Without having cold winters
@Land-f7qАй бұрын
I would seman check ur bulls and hope you know what cows with what bulls
@TwinElmFarmsАй бұрын
We know which bull is with which cow and we semen test every bull.
@jerryalexander1895Ай бұрын
Do you know what cows were with what bulls?
@TwinElmFarmsАй бұрын
Yep we looked it all up. The cows that were open were spread out over all the pastures.
@cliffordarnoldussenАй бұрын
How come you don’t put a windbreaker or something out for the cattle get out of the wind lay down
@TwinElmFarmsАй бұрын
We do have wind breaks and a yard site that helps.
@CliftonLehmanАй бұрын
The way we did it was blood test but that could be a problem sometimes with not getting enough blood for a test
@rickkneeshaw6337Ай бұрын
Still a pretty low percentage open but of course you want less. Be interested to hear how many you ship. Thanks for the video.
@TwinElmFarmsАй бұрын
Ryan is very accurate, I've never heard of doing it with blood test... Ryan did it with ultrasound one year, just takes longer.
@ltt-c7yАй бұрын
you need to get a couple of cattle dogs
@TwinElmFarmsАй бұрын
Yes i would love a good cattle dog, Stella is a bit old and only barks at the auger and fork lift.
@kenperron9260Ай бұрын
ugly , old , open have to go to make herd better
@DeanHill-v3wАй бұрын
Easy decision. Just sell them next possible sale. They have been freeloading too long. Take the money and buy mid aged cows carrying 6 months. Buy extra as calves are and will continue to have good value in 2025.
