How well does Nioh run on PC? Nioh Steam version overview

It has happened! God bless Team Ninja for giving us - normal, PC, gamers - a chance to enjoy Nioh outside of Playstation. You can get it right now via Steam, but... is it worth? Absolutely, Nioh is an amazing game... but is it worth to get it on PC? How well does it run? What does it offer over the PS4 version? Today I will do my best to answer those questions.
In this video I go over various settings that PC version of Nioh can offer, explaining how to adjust the resolution and make it a bit more playable on your low end PC. This video is designed to share my experience with the PC version of Nioh and give you a brief overview of what kind of options and performance you can expect on your PC.

This game is fucking great and runs very well with, as you said, the occasional hiccups. I can't believe how short the loading times are after years of Soulsborne games. Fav weapon so far is Raikiri. Coop has been fun so far. Can't wait to jump into high level builds and PvP!

Just discovered this had a PC port. I noticed the Dynamic reflection setting creates really weird shadow artifacts so I disabled it, and the game looks normal.

Honestly what Nioh needs most in terms of graphics right now is 2 things. 1) Fix that texture bug that affects that one rock texture in the first story mission, and the corpses in the hino-enma cutscene and then mysteriously never happens ever again. 2) AA, just some kind of AA, the rain missions in particular look horrendous because without AA it just looks like there's static all over the screen throughout the entire mission. It's kinda strange how they had time to add Ansel and Shadowplay Highlights support, but no native AA. What's even more bizarre is that a Japanese dev managed to add Borderless support natively and have it somehow be less buggy than some Western games are in Borderless.

Highlights allow you to, well, highlight and save clips of your deaths, defeated youkais, bosses, saved codamas and mission end screens. Highlights are like 20-25 secs long.

Nope. It clips death and all mentioned above on it's own. So, you get a shit ton of small clips, that you can preview and save, if you want. It's not shadowplay's "up to 20 last mins"

I'm having mostly 60fps with occasional drops to 45 on a 1050ti with low settings. Im enjoying it so far, already got 18hrs of playtime. Looking forward the pvp now, wonder when it will be unlocked during the playthrough

I'm glad they added m&k support. In my opinion it's so much less clunky than a controller, especially in a game where you are rewarded for constantly examining your environment. Not having to rely on a clunky thumbstick to do that is gold. Mouse macros were handled well too as any action being allowed multiple inputs lets you use a keystroke or a button depending on the situation. Kudos to the developers for actually listening to initial player backlash

i know this is a hella late reply but yes i have this problem. when i was playing the game last year i noticed it but i was on a gtx 760 and an old fx processor at the time so i attributed it to it being my pc. however i built a new one with a gtx 1660 ti and a ryzen 5 2600x and it still happens at certain areas so im guessing its just the game itself.

@@JHgamer101 First of all the Publisher don't have experience with souls-like games or PC Ports. This combined means mostly nothing good when it comes to a game like Nioh. I have not played it on my own but people on steam are mainly complaining about constant frame drops even with High end PCs. On the other hand bugs and crashes. And it's like you said: The PC version is not very famous because its not really a great and well done Port.

Suprised it doesn't run like crap, but I don't like how they dont make the game play properly with mouse and keyboard. Neir Automata was the same way, tho in that games case it did not like to run on PC properly... yes, I know gamepads are easy to get. I have a gamepad I use with my PC when I need to, but a PC port needs to accept PC controls, mouse and keyboard, comfortably. People talk about being ported to the PC opening up the more options to play it, how about extending that to control options.

Is strange beacuse i can run nioh with an 1050Ti with stable 60 fps and rarely any drop under 56 (which trust me is nothing for human eye since this game doesn't run framskips) And I was actually able to enjoy action mode on 1200x720 (my screen is bad lul) with decent graphics and all of the effects on ... also idk how never dropped a single frame against Nue

Hell, it even runs good on my GTX 950 at native 900p. Shadows med, AO & Dynamic reflection ON. Still looks better than PS4 action mode & mostly runs at 50+ with some minor drops to mid 40s in taxing areas but you won't notice them if you are actually playing the game instead of FPS hunting. Guess performance really depends on Japanese vodo port magic.

Maybe its just me but if you make a game for the PC you make it work with the most bread and butter control scheme that everyone has. Don't get me wrong I understand that a game may play better with a controller but you should still support mouse and keyboard. Hell you would go make a game on the PS4 and without supporting a PS4 controller and say you need to buy a keyboard and mouse, so why should it be accepted the other way around.

They probably deem it too much work to actually do that. A kb+m dynamic is rather different than a controller dynamic where third person melee based games are confirmed or certain tps games.

Looks like the typical Japanese console to pc port which is deemed 'good' because it actually runs and doesn't crash much, which in reality means its pretty mediocre by actual pc standards. Well at least it wont have gigantic black bars for some resolutions like some pc ports I guess. Though you'd think by now JP devs would put in some graphical options that are worth a damn, support arbitrary resolutions and actually support mouse and keyboard without being a shit show or at least not make the mouse emulate an analog stick and think that's somehow acceptable as an aiming device.

Hope you are having the blast. Sadly I had to sell my PS4, playing Nioh again made me realize how much I missed it. Even early bosses are so much fun. I'm happy the game runs well and there is no need for niohfix autism to get it work. Although there are rumours of matchmaking being screwed, hopefully Team Ninja will respond, if it is the case. Dunno, the problem with Laptops is, that they never reach the power of a desktop PC with the same hardware. But I hardly believe, that Nioh has higher requirements than the Witcher 3, think you should be fine. Can it run Dark Souls 3? If yes you can definitely play Nioh too.

Sadly to say it unplayable :(, the game seems look fine with low settings, shadow off with ~30fps but after few minutes it becomes slow down and stutter at 15~20fps, i think because of my VGA and also the game port does not improve for PC

Small Hacks on how to make Nioh PC work smoothly 1. Use a controller. 2. Unplug your mouse and keyboard. 3. If you are running the game with the Shadow quality on LOW, try to turn it to HIGH or any level except LOW. There seems to be a bug now which makes the game broken with low shadow quality. dislike this if you find it not working
