Have you done the sata network adapter upgrade? Let us know how it went, good or bad and any other tips!
@norlansuico2 жыл бұрын
Yeah your suggestion of the bracket is good, cause even if i use the laptop hdd it will still got loose connection when my ps2 get a little shock and the fhdb wont load, and yeah the biggest advantage of sata network adapter is the very fast loading of games.
@GenerationalGamer2 жыл бұрын
Yup; it is quick an easy. Plus, you get the benefit of network access.

Yes. I spent days loading my hard drive with all my games too. It was actually a huge pain, and I never want to have to do all that setup again. Can I just image the hard drive as a backup? Hard drives die. Frequently. It would be great for the PS2 community if you could figure out a good method of backing up your PS2 SATA drive.
@GenerationalGamer2 жыл бұрын
@@middle_pickup I imagine using Linux, the dd command would be your best bet. It won't care about the unique file system of the PS2.

I use this with a SATA to SD card adaptor and SD card extension cable to route an SD card outside the slot so I can easily remove it to add new games to it.

I'm using one of these for about 2 years with a 1tb hdd and it's awesome, no issues at all, also I got a Sata adapter for my original Xbox and 1tb as well and works amazing, thanks man for your videos.

I just did sata adapter for og xbox recently. The 80pin cable I had I think is 18 inches so a little tight but well worth the upgrade
@catch20302 жыл бұрын
I’ve done the mod since I got a PS2 with the Sony network adapter for $20, works great. It has a 500GB SSD in it atm. May make it a 1TB but not likely.

This set up is all I've been using for years. Never had issues with sata drives. Although my ps2 lens died about a year ago, haven't had time to replace it. I recommend this setup to everyone. Setup the iso is super pain, once you load them all at ones, it's not too bad. It's not like xbox og where you can just drag and drop over the network. Super easy.

It's a good idea to retain the "network connectivity" since you can share PS2 games from a PC with the help of OPL Manager which is super great, even though you have an HDD installed.

Not to forget that network connectivity can be used for its original intent - online and ethernet LAN system link multiplayer.

I only have one question, ... Normally with the HDD connected via USB the gameplay is a bit slow, for example, Gran Turismo, the response from the pad is a bit slow, which causes alot of frustration, so besides the loading of the games being fast, does it actually improve the gameplay experience if i'm using the Network adapter as compared to playing via USB??
@Charlymorfin Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the USB port on the PS2 sucks because is USB 1.0, completely useless unless you connect peripherals and that kind of things.

sata ssd is pretty much useless coz it's limited by the ide bandwidth in the first place.
@middle_pickup2 жыл бұрын
SSD's aren't only advantageous from their bandwidth. They are also much more reliable than spinning disks, and consume less power. All storage drives have a finite lifespan, but SSD's typically do not spontaneously die like hard drives do. If you can afford it, I recommend using an SSD for this application. However, you should always backup data you intend to keep.

@@middle_pickup IDE fastest bandwith = 150 MB/s, sata 3 hdd bandwith = 600 MB/s, SSD bandwith = 3500 MB/s, still it is pretty much useless the ssd is being gimped by the Sata to IDE adapter, as for life span dude I manage servers there are enterprise and consumer hard drives with long life spans and designed I cannot emphasize enough "to be run CONTINOUS 24/7 operation for 5 years straight with warranty" LOL your not gonna turn on and play the xbox for that long, the hard drive life span that you know was from a decade ago so don't worry about data loss and corruption ok ask yourself why do data centers still use it, HGST is the best in my experience and WD, seagate don't bother buying those bullshit drives so many RMA'd drive from that manufacturer.
