The best way to rerurn a lob is to hit a FH or BH overhead smash. Period. It doesn’t require a video. 🙄

It is part of the game. Should not be used against older player in rec play that might fall. It is about as fun as body bagging a 90 year old woman who is blind in one eye.

This is a nice video to watch because it confirms my mindset about how I've been incorporating lobs in my gameplay for many months now. During dink rallies, as a counter-reset which let's my partner and I get to the kitchen line and pull away at least one opponent from the kitchen to acquire positional advantage, and even I'm back-court or mid-court rushing to recover a ball that the opponent lightly taps over the net into the kitchen.

I like your warnings at the end of the video. From what I've seen in rec play situations the lob is a low percentage shot where the risk is too high for the potential reward.

I understand strategic lobbing but I get actually aggravated(interally) when I play against people who constantly lob every time they get the ball or every other time. No matter how terribly it does for them, I just hate constantly having to run back for it

I often use the lob and I'm pretty good at it, let me tell you when is the best and worst for me to use the lob - when we dink and the ball is in front of me or from a drop that lands in front of me is pretty easy, from a drive or a dink that makes me stretch - like on my backhand and low bounce is very hard or impossible. So like everything else in pickleball - don't give me the opportunity and I won't do it.

Perfect timing! I was just wanting to add a lob into my game. Im a lefty and usually stack with my teammates, so my forehand is always in the middle. Do you think its better to take the longer route aiming for the corners (risk going sideline out) or just try to go up the middle between the two opponents.

I saw Anna Bright fall backwards going for a lob at the PPA in Austin. I noticed the more novice one is the better lobs. I was the same just starting out. I could get my lobs just at the back line.

been working on this recently. almost sent a lady to the hospital with one of my lobs on Wednesday, she ended up falling & hitting her head, thank goodness for those indoor court dividers that slowed down her fall 😅

Yeah, had a similar experience indoors but i placed a ball perfectly at my opponent's feet when they were coming in, caused them to step back, lose balance, fall, and then hit their head. Their whole body got stiff for a moment while they were on the floor. After being helped up, they were visible not coherent for a 5 min, but they managed to be ok.

Like tagging , I realize that lopping is a legal part of the game but I think that it’s bad form in rec. play with folks that are over 50 and /or have mobility issues. A friend of mine that was 60 and a 4.0 player fell when retrieving a lob and died from the head injury. I will never use the lob again unless my opponent is under 20-30 and I am certain that they are aware of the risk of tracking down a lob and have been schooled on the technique for going so.
