Hi Jenny! I’ve been a longtime viewer of your videos & I just wanted to say that you and your family truly inspire me that it is possible to achieve my dream of becoming a physician while still being a young mom. In your opinion, is it ideal to be pregnant and have a baby before medical school? I’m Pre-Med right now but I’m taking a break after I graduate to plan my wedding & then I will do a Post-Bacc program to further enhance my academic resume for med school apps. Thank you again! ❤️
@drjennale6 жыл бұрын
I think this depends if you have help or not. The first two years of medical school I would say is the hardest and determines what speciality you will go into based on your board score. Not saying that you can’t do well and be a mom, it is just harder for me to be away from my family that much. I personally have to study a lot more than other people to retain information.
@karolreyes23726 жыл бұрын
@@drjennale I will have a gap year (more like 6-7 months) before med school and plan on having a baby then. I do have a good support system. Do you think being pregnant for medschool interviews would reduce my chances? Or make life harder vs waiting longer? I am non-traditional student so slightly older than my peeps
@drjennale6 жыл бұрын
My personal view is that you should not have to wait to start a family while pursuing your career in medicine. You just have to show the interviewers that you are confident, you have the topic a lot of thought, and that you have a plan on how to raise the child while going through medical training.

Congrats doc...quick question. Do you take the vitafusion gummy prenatals along with your iron containing prenatals - or just sticking to one? Also I noticed that the vitafusion prenatals does not have adequate amount of folic acid - is that ok?
@drjennale6 жыл бұрын
I would always check the vitamin has enough folic acid. That’s the whole point of taking a prenatal vitamin. The folic acid helps prevent neural tube defects. I switch back and forth between the gummy’s and the tablets with iron. Iron is better absorbed when you take it every other day anyways.

Congrats, I guess a question that I have had since previous videos is with two kids and a demanding career you guys are okay prioritizing the work and kids first, then you s/o based on the days you have off, and then other friends outside of work or are those friends not really kept in touch with? Also how do you maintain research too as a resident? My bad about all these questions.
@drjennale6 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question! We try to throw get togethers at our house so we can still see our friends at the same time the kids can still be comfortable. We also find that we’re making more friends who have kids because there’s an instant understanding and plus play dates! There’s obviously those friends who don’t have kids and would rather go out to bars/clubs and we just don’t see them as often. My residency requires us to do quality improvement projects and research in order to graduate. To be honest, I’m not super excited about research so I do the bare minimum lol.

Would stress in anyway harm a pregnancy during medical school or residency? Thanks for mentioning how the midwifery practice won’t take you until you’re ten weeks. From my understanding, OBGYNs will take you as soon as you think you’re pregnant or you have a positive home pregnancy test. This confirms OBGYN as a more perfect fit for me career wise. As a doula/premed student, the doppler is an excellent idea to have on hand in my doula bag. Congrats again you two!
