It reminds me of the historical consultant on downton abbey who told all the actors playing downstairs servants that to them seeing the lives of the upstairs nobles was like watching a soap opera. I too find it interesting to watch from afar--although technically it's my monarchy too as Canada is a commonwealth Realm. I actually didn't pay attention until Harry and Meghan moved here in 2019. At first I completely fell for their sob stories. Confessions of a Former Sugar. But they did a lot of terrible things in Canada and by 2020 I was happy and proud Canada was the first country to revoke their IPP status. Sorry to our southern neighbors though: they moved to California as soon as we stopped paying for their private jets and five star hotels (that they were passing off as security, personal expenses making up half of their $30 million a year bill they expected Canadian taxpayers to keep paying indefinitely.) Now I follow what they are doing so I can warn others of their grifting, and make up for the days I defended them on social media. Every day. *sigh* But also because it's a "soap opera."

The pushing forward of Camilla as Queen vs queen consort as QEII stated is a huge mistake by Charles. Not having Catherine wear a tiara is obviously trying to not have the future queen Catherine upstage Camilla as Catherine is the most popular royal. QEII did not push Phillip forward in this way and kept him as a Prince and Duke. Catherine will be a true Queen and Queen mother of the heirs and first wife of William. No divorce. It must be so challenging for William seeing Camilla crowned as Queen while remembering her role in Diana's unhappiness. Deep respect for William and Catherine for their respectful integrity and doing duty and they are the future of the Monarchy.

Considering how much older the current working royals are, the Monarchy is already being slimmed down. William and Catherine can't perform. all the current duties of all the older working royals who perform duties now with only Edward and Sofie to help with duties in future years. It's not realistic. There will either be fewer appearances total or other younger royals will have to be doing duties too.

I think it’s obvious to anyone watching the Royal Family, that it’s not sustainable for all the work needed to be carried out falls on KC&QC, PW&PC, PA, Duke Edward & Duchess Sophie. Harry does a lot of harm with all the power and privilege he has been given. He uses his bully pulpit to say whatever serves his own agenda, and is insensitive and tonedeaf and uncaring of the consequences of his greatly amplified words. Such as glorifying drugs in a country with 92,000 deaths from overdose a year, the dead being young people, average age 21. So many are teenagers, tragically. There are good reasons why only 3% of us voted to keep paying their "security" and Canada was the first country to revoke their IPP status. For starters, they pulled the IPP scam of charging their luxury personal expenses to their security bill, $15 million out of $30 million a year. Such as private jets taken for private luxury vacations and profiteering, like charging Canadian taxpayers almost $500,000--$270,000 just for the private jet--to luxuriate in Miami and pocket a $500,000 appearance fee from a banking convention. That's just one example. They keep getting away with it, it's time they are called to account. I'm rooting for you America!

I completely agree with Sara that it was a HUGE mistake that Charles was not allowed to marry Camilla in the first place. I loved Diana but I reckon that HMQ eventually regretted that decision. I think the comment of a "slimmed down monarchy" refered to skinny down ALL the palaces staff and operating expenses as well not just the number of working royals. Charles appears to want to get more value out of all the palaces and crown properties in order to generate more revenue.

I agree. Anne was right in saying the 'slimmed down' Monarchy was said Years ago. Now it has slimmed itself by the late Queen & Prince Philip's passing add in Andrew, Harry and Meghan. I hope Princess Anne's husband is added to the 'working Royal' roster, so he can do visits officially on his own as well maybe invite Lady Louise to do some visits on her University breaks to see if this is a life she would choose.

As a tourist to Britain, London, I can assure you my first thought of this city is Buckingham Palace, a place I will happily pay to take a tour one day, a place I will be more than happy to shop in their gift shop, a place I will simply stand in front hoping to watch the changing of the guard, a place to admire as the Royal Office and yes home for the King! I think the media is reading too much into Princess Anne’s comments. I watched the entire interview and thought it rather pleasant. I didn’t see her looking upset or perturbed in any way. She is there to support her brother and her family however she is needed.

Prince Willing can always reinstate certain things that Charles has chosen to cut back. The world as a whole loves all the pomp and circumstance because it just makes the tourists happy to see on any given day any of the royal soldiers, etc. proceeding along the streets. It’s just wonderful to see the pride and stature of the military. It’s a real shame we here in the U.S. don’t try to preserve older historical things.

I am American of English ancestry on both sides. I really don’t have skin in the game but think it is important to maintain our heritage and history, in every country. Of course every culture changes with time but we also need keep our history and traditions. Don’t get rid of the monarchy. Changes are speeding along too fast here.

I would like to see more of Edward and Sophie, it would be a plus to have Zara and Mike back in doing Royal duties,they would be fun to have out and about,even Beatrice and Eugenie should do more. There are options, but not Harry and Megan. Slim down can mean slimming down in other ways. Princess Catherine deserves to wear a crown,she is the future Queen. what do mean back in doing royal duties, they have never done any and never any and never will daughters of Princesses become working royals, and Beatrice and Eugenie were not asked to be working royals, royals cannot just take it on themselves to be working royals and slimming down the Monarchy means reducing the number of working royals and there is no Princess Catherine, she is not a Princess by birth, the Princess of Wales is a courtesy title for the wives of a Prince of Wales and only Kings and Queens wear crowns, the other female members of the family wear tiaras but theres no such thing as deserving to wear one and most of the people do not want the gowns or the tiaras it's not 1953, there would be a huge backlash, and there is nothing wrong with the Queen's family being involved, she is being crowned too. some of the Queen Mother's family were also her attendants and whats wrong it having some similarities to a modern wedding The coronation ring is called the wedding ring of England

I feel nearly all media seem to blow things up or out of proportion. The Princess Royals’ interview was completely authentic. But people mistake her forthrightness as being stern or critical. People are so sensitive. She was asked a question and answered it honestly. She is always savvy enough to NOT make blanket statement or sweeping generalisations yet the headlines and click bait headers wrap things up in 5 words or fewer and regularly have a negative take to them. Then commentators chew over them and very quickly, negative or slightly misleading stories appear, taken as gospel.
