Looks great until it's in motion, which I think has two culprits: 1.) Will Smith's facial movements are very different from when he was young 2.) The manual phoneme matching was difficult both because of the angle of the capture and the facial hair making it hard to dial in perfectly.

i feel like there should have been a line of dialogue saying how "the skin on the clones' looks smoother because it's a byproduct of their method of cloning." This would provide some suspension of disbelief for the audience, and also give a bit of slack for the VFX artists to not need to worry about 100% realism.

@@DensDigitalDen I actually think that they could have achieved perfection here. Probably time and budget constraints were the limiting factor. In some shots he looks perfect. Especially where he doesn't move his mouth😂 These are exciting projects for CGI artists and an awesome learning opportunity. They can also be used as a marketing gimmick. I just wish the world wasn't so negative or snobbish towards CGI. Especially since the artists go through so much to make these possible. But yeah, de-aging probably would have done the trick.
@xen0m

@@MfezekoMatshoba Even today industry can't achieve good results and for some reason can't use the AI tools which would fix everything. Maybe they need to keep the jobs running for all that people for some reason. That would fix everything and make it perfect.

@@MfezekoMatshoba "It's not too bad but it's still there" That's the problem, there is no "middle", it's either "real" or "not real", hard to trick our brain. And this is "not real".
@exgaiden
@exgaiden 3 ай бұрын
Despite it being amazing CGI, some of the best I've ever seen, I still know it's CGI. Faces are so difficult because our brains are just that smart at recognizing them. I think, it's the eye distance that seems to be slightly uncanny, and the eye tracking. If you freeze at 0:03 at the second when he moves his eye to our left, they track almost too precisely and look like off. The same happens at 0:08 when he turns, the eye to our right looks like it's really off track, because it's moving equally to the other one, rather than moving in a cone-line narrowing of focus.
