In this video I take out the Hillman superminx after a major service to the cooling system, but will it run cooler? Thanks for liking and subscribing Thanks for watching.

Your carburettor is minus the heat shield plate beneath it. This appears to have an asbestos style material which soaks up any fuel spillage. Your criticism of the fuel pipe is correct. I have replaced mine with bunny which is clamped to back of engine lift and has soft links to fuel pump and carburettor. Some people use soft hose across front of engine but this brings it within 4mm of fan which is potential disaster. As I understand it the clutch slave is the wrong side of the engine housing. Specialists in USA and Blighty say it should be other side and the slave operates further down the cylinder. When you take off the water pump castings lay them on a flat surface, like a piece of heavy glass, would be a flat windscreen in the old days, and check for truth. Inaccuracies may be rubbed out using carborundum paper or valve grinding past. The big aluminium shell might well move slightly after dismantling. What I am learning is never trust what you see because somebody else has been there before you!

Thanks for the comments and the advice. Will look into flattening the thermostat housing at some stage. Good idea regarding the valve grinding paste as an abrasive.

Hey I don't think its operating out of the normal range, temp will move around under normal loads and some heatsink when turned off is going to happen with iron heads and block, looks like you have done everything you can at this point.. if it moves into the red I would be concerned. Go buy the gasket goo permatex stuff and sort the leak ..😊

Yes maybe you are right in that being a cast iron engine it holds alot of heat when the fan is not running at high speed. Yaah will definitely try the permatex sealer.

those were metal pipes originally

Yeah thanks for confirming that. Luckily no more fuel leaks now. Thanks for watching.
