How Will We Build the Metaverse? Unreal Engine 5 and Beyond

This week's video is a little differently paced from normal. Last time, there were so many amazing comments on the Metaverse video, that I've spent the last 3 weeks considering them. Today, I respond to a few of the most thought provoking of them, and of course, had to turn the experience into a game!

I am a musician, who has done many recordings and interacted with other musicians all over the world. Just yesterday I determined that my future would be to build a space in the Metaverse, where I can seriously interact and perform for a public, by subscription or otherwise. Play, perform, chat, interview, sell merchandise, recording etc. And today I found your videos. How would I go about getting started on a project like that? And thanks for such inspiring videos .

damn, it feels unreal to think about it. I started a project of my own in the unreal engine which you will go to a big sci-fi building in the middle of a tropical island. I started it as a social hub and just virtual tourism. Currently, I have done the VR setup and done basic landscape design and texturing. Update: added props and maps, Done level Design and added movement and other controls

One thing to consider when discussing the many metaverses as opposed to the singular one is that the very universal protocol linking all these worlds together could best be described as the metaverse, and the worlds within that would be what you describe as a metaverse. When settling on the terminology matching it to our current understanding of network and interactive media most closely matches that description. The internet isn't controlled by anyone. And neither should or would the metaverse be. Yet there can still only be one verse, with millions of galaxies and worlds and suns to give it life... :)

WebGL/WebGPU, WebAssembly, and WebXR is the path to the metaverse via the World Wide Web. The same way we currently navigate 2D webpages is how we will traverse from one virtual world to another in a seamless, interoperable way.

Yeah absolutely! The thing that worries me at the moment is internet bandwidth - most of the VR worlds available on current Metaverse platforms are a few hundred megabytes, and can quickly get even higher than that. Load times are such a bottleneck. I checked out your channel btw - your web Metaverse stuff looks awesome!

Thanks very much :) I typically record my own audio in Adobe Premiere, using a Blue Yeti mic. Then just a light layer of vocal processing, to make sure things are clear. For the AI voices, I used Replica Studio, which turns text to speech, in different voices and accents :)

VR metaverses will be both a curse and a blessing. In one sense it will reduce the amount of stuff people need since they can decorate their virtual homes for free (either free assets or created by themselves), making it likely that many homes will be very minimalistic with just comfortable chairs and a good VR rig per user. It will also reduce the necessity to travel a lot as you can likely get a better experience in VR than in the real world (to some degree ofc, visuals and sound, and removal of masses of tourists everywhere). The problem lies in that it will also make people even less observant about the real natural world that is breaking down around us, and make VR just another level of escapisim to stop caring about it. We will get a false sense of the real world when we can see lions an a savannah in a VR simulation while in reality they might be extinct. Much like many modern natural documentaries are just zoomed in tightly cut productions showing a small part of the real world, while in reality almost all land is used and inhabitated by humans in some way. The metaverse or addiction to VR will come no matter what we do but we also have to think about the real world and how we can heal that besides the obvious focus on less stuff and the need to jetset around the world.

there needs to be some consideration for the alt verse. think of it like a block chain TOR browser with access and no monitoring of the meta verse. i know what structure and how it needs to be developed. fortran, cobol, dos, unix... the next step is just a kick off pick. Robert Pick was the first guardian of the meta verse. we need to think forward with an understanding of the past. without history we are lost. to mature we need to stop making the same mistakes over and over and over again.

I think what should be done is build an educational metaverse worked with game designers. But think about a metaverse where you could go to a park in real life and have a war game their or an educational one learn about dinosaurs and then a metaverse for home improvement how to build things visuals go so much farther nowadays.

Yeah - I think Metaverses could be amazing for education too! At the most basic level, giving people access to Metaspace tools is easier than building infrastructure, and for a lot of places in the world, could be make-or-break for educating new generations. Not to mention that using AI and immersive environments to help people learn could be an amazing way to teach too!

@@AlistairHume absolutely the more appealing you can make it with educational experiences the more backing you'll inevitably get from governments and corporations because now it's viable to their needs to teach and train the next generations, and then also parents could take their kids to say Disney go on the safari ride and each animal you see pops up with facts and details showing an A.R display of what,where,when and hows possibilities would be endless and then all that data goes to a metaverse

Some of this map is my own work, some is from asset resources. I wanted to blend together as many sources as possible to illustrate the way you can overlay different worlds, and drew from a library of my own work and other sources :) Also a bit of Megascans in there at the end!

With unreal engine and unity and other 3D modeling programs we already have enough software to go ahead and start building a metal verse some big company like Facebook Google or Microsoft if they want to take the lead and start building some of it and then let everybody else jump in and start adding their little worlds just like the work you're doing in your videos and then we start putting it together and then we start building it out the way I look at the metaverce it will never be finished it will always be new worlds to build and spaces to create in vr you know you would do the Earth and then you do the universe and then it just keeps going on and on so that's the way I look at it will never be finished it will always be more to add so we need to start now and stop just talking about it cuz yeah I build 3D models models and worlds from old games I used to do and you're doing a great job with your stuff and I want to do new stuff with mines but we need to put all these worlds together and it was cool what you said in the video
