To be fair it could be that the evil queen or Snow was a descent of Queen Amaya either through her remarrying or adopting a child and the queen found the mirror in dungeon while exploring the castle.
@vassiliapolychronaki163111 ай бұрын
In the Disney novel Fairest of all: A Tale of the Wicked Queen, the mirror is actually occupied by the soul of the queen's dead father who was a king. Not necessarily canon but it shows that there are other origin stories. Plus, it hardly matters if the evil queen is a descendant of Amaya because the mirror that Amaya sent to the dungeon is not the mirror from Snow White. They are essentially not in the least bit similar. The Mirror in Snow White is bigger, oval, golden and ornate. The one in Wish is not even a mirror to begin with. It is the tip of Magnifico's magic staff and its is actually a small piece of crystal. And Magnifico is not really the ghost-faced spirit from Snow White regardless of the Easter Egg of that face supposedly showing for a split second in Wish because the spirit in Snow White has occlumency powers which Magnifico does not specialise in. Even if we pretend that it is a mirror, as Amaya does, it is just a hand-held type and it is smaller, rhomboid, dark-coloured and plain. There was a similar magic mirror in Descendants and even that was not exactly the same as the Wish one except for the size; plus it is a separate universe to the original Snow White.

As a healthcare worker (HCW) I can seriously relate to Magnifico. He did his best, wasting years to learn the 'art' and protects the people his way, but when he showed subtle signs of burntout and felt under-appreciated, no one was there to console him except that feeble attempt of the queen.. So what if he desires a little bit of praise? So what if he wanted a bit of acknowledgement, it isn't evil, it's human.. and when he finally snapped from the heavy burden he had carried all these years, that one single event made everyone turn against him, forgetting all the sacrifices he did to built the kingdom.. And even worst, the people actually gave no second thoughts and felt that he deserve to be left trapped in the dungeons forever... One occasion I had during the pandemic when us HCW already put ourselves at risk for the masses, one of them had the audacity to demand for a private cabin and spew foul shit comments at our faces.. I would have broken their 'wish' too if I snapped at that point like Magnifico... Again, totally relatable..
@luckymouse198811 ай бұрын
Magnifico was pretty much adored by everyone in the kingdom, there was no lack of praise or acknowledgement. Although he started out with good intentions, over time he grew to be paranoid, controlling and a bit narcissistic. He didn't just take wishes to keep them safe anymore or to grant them, he took them to keep people in line. Remove their wish, basically their ambition in the movie, so that they don't do anything unpredictable, something that might jeopardize his vision, his control. As shown in the movie, he didn't want to grant Sabino's wish of "creating something to inspire people" because he couldn't guarantee what they'd be inspired to do, what if they were inspired to revolt against him? When asked why he wouldn't just return the wishes that he never wanted to grant, he yells that he decides what people deserve. He has become an authoritarian who thinks that he knows what's best for everyone and takes offence when someone dares to question him. He felt threatened by Star's light awakening something warm inside people. The vast majority of his Kingdom listened to him and was loyal up until the very end where he ensnared everyone with his green magic and openly proclaimed all the wishes to be his.
@studguy-mk8pp11 ай бұрын
@@luckymouse1988 That's what burntout meant.. We all know the joy of helping others, but when you've overworked yourself to the limit, doing what you think is best for the masses because everyone depended on you and you seem to be the only one capable of doing the work, and all the while having very little physical gain to look back at, to remind/motivate us to continue.. that can be very frustrating, especially when the people you're protecting started showing distrust on your intentions... But instead of calming him down and showing him compassion or guiding him back to the right path, like what we should do for good ppl who experienced burntout, these ppl continued triggering him and reassuring his insecurities, eventually even imprisoning him... Imagine this : a surgeon who had helped ppl daily, performing emergency surgeries to the point of lacking sleep and skipping meals because people needed him, and when he lashes out once with words that 'hurt' ppl, he immediately gets blacklisted and sent to the electric chair... Now how's that for justice? And while yes it may seem as though he is a bit of an authoritarian, but same goes with how a doctor gets to decide which antibiotics is best for the patient - they are just more qualified for the job. Just because he said it in a harsh unfiltered manner doesn't mean it's an evil thing to say, because yes, at the end of the day the ones who are professionals at the field are the ones to decide.. Plus I could also argue that the main character herself who lacked any form of qualification or even any redeeming qualities, gets to decide recklessly that ALL wishes have the right to be granted, isn't that 'authoritative' in reverse, on the opposite end of the spectrum? If anything, the solution should be somewhere in the middle where both the people and the king decides together which wish to be granted, which to return to the people, and which to be left with the king.. Just my 2 cents Also side note, I believe the king is a good person whose insecurities got the better of him during his burntout period, up to the point he went and seek the evil book of spells to bolster himself against his insecurities.. After that point, it was as if he was possessed and slowly slipping/losing his 'self'... Watch the movie again if you didn't notice that.. #RelatableKing :(

@@studguy-mk8pp Not really, he wasn't burntout. He probably did start out actually wanting to grant people's wishes, but he also probably found out later on that he could use his wish granting magic to more or less just outright control people. So, no, he pretty much got what he deserved and is not a victim of burnout. And if you want to retort, here is something that you probably didn't consider. Magnifico makes a promise to grant those people's wishes and then backtracks in private that he isn't going to grant them, right? Well, who else makes promises to the people but doesn't actually fulfill them? Answer: Selfish Politicians.

That doesnt apply to every single Disney villain, a lot of them obv couldnt have been under the influence of that book. Also Gaston isnt The Man from Bambi cuz: 1. There's no way he'd silently wait in the bushes to shoot some animals, he'd probably bring someone with him to display his hunting skills in front of them and he'd brag about himself while hunting. The Man didnt show up onscreen even once, Gaston isnt the type of guy who would spend the whole movie offscreen lol 2. The Man often used hounds while hunting, he chronologically first used one pack of hounds in Bambi 2 (that's a midquel and Bambi is still a fawn) but some of them died by the end of the movie. Chronologically later in the finale of Bambi (when Bambi is an adult), The Man used a large pack of hounds which means he obv got some new hounds since Bambi 2 and therefore he either breeds hounds by himself or buys new hounds whenever he loses some of the old ones. Gaston didnt own a single hound which is another proof that he and The Man are two different people

Also, Amos is probably not the hunter either because he only has two dogs whereas the hunter in Bambi has lots of dogs and none of them looks like Amos's dogs.

I thought I would personally rewrite my version of the story before watching it. Involving Asha being more service oriented, a day dreamer, an intellectual who finds out for herself what the King and Queen is really up to in Rosas. I think Asha's wish would be to feel connection to someone/something to deeply care for, hence the introduction to star boy! A Star boy who grants wishes on a whim- and learns that not every wish needs to be granted in order for someone's life to be fulfilled and successful. Together they'd learn that the king and queen took away Asha's wish (shocker😜)- ripping her of her memories of her family and friends. Yeah- anyway! Her being a fairy Godmother totally works too!

If Wish is a prequel to every other Disney movie, then it single handedly ruins all of them. I'm fine with Magnifico becoming the Magic Mirror, but the idea that Asha becomes a Fairy Godmother when she's not a fairy is just ridiculous. Wish was so insecure about itself that it had to rewrite Disney history to make itself seem important, Walt's legacy didn't deserve this. Also Evil Queen Grimhilde married Snow's king dad before he died, that's why she's the lone ruler and treated Snow like a servant.
@vassiliapolychronaki163111 ай бұрын
None of these is officially confirmed. The only thing that was officially said about this movie being a spiritual prequel to others is the concept that the Star is the same Disney star that characters in other movies wish upon, which has no effect on the plots of these movies. All the rest are fan speculation, just like the Pixar theory etc. Magnifico did not become the magic mirror because the mirror he is in is not in the least bit similar to the mirror in Snow White (and no, he cannot be summoned from one mirror to another because it is not possible to summon spirits trapped in an object, otherwise Jafar would have just summoned the Genie from the Cave of Wonders without having to acquire the lamp). People say that they see the face of the Magic Mirror in the crystal where Magnifico is trapped but this is more likely just one of the many Easter eggs and was only meant as joke. Also, Magnifico is not an oracle and, although he casts spells, he does not have magical insight to answer questions as the spirit in the mirror does. And no, Asha is not the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella just as she is not Tinkerbell, the Blue Fairy or Flora, Fauna and Merriweather. She does wear the blue outfit as another Easter reference, but she cannot be the Fairy Godmother from Cinderella for the very simple reason that the Fairy Godmother is caucasian (I did not want to point that out but it has to be said). It is not Disney ruining their movies with Wish, it is fans spreading such made-up theories. Consider how many people online were convinced that Brom is the Headless Horseman in disguise in Disney's Sleepy Hollow even though all evidence pointed otherwise. Disney put this argument to rest once and for all in Once Upon a Studio where these two appeared as separate characters. So, although I appreciate the time and effort put into this video, Wish does not change anything at all about the continuity of other Disney movies. They are all set in separate continuities, just like Kingdom Hearts changes nothing about Disney movies and neither do alternate universes such as House of Mouse, Descendants, Once Upon a Time, live action remakes, published Disney novels etc.

Perhaps the book was written by the mistress of all evil herself. Perhaps the disaster that destroyed his family and burned his family tapestry was her doing (she does seem to like using fire on her enemies, and she seems to live in a castle that stands in ruins, perhaps she claimed it from the Magnifico family). Where else would Magnifico find a library's worth of books on magic? his fear of the power she wielded would be a good reason he initially locked up the book and declared it forbidden. Maybe it's not a prequel to every other Disney movie, just some of them. I think Wish is connecting everything Disney. Wish is about well wishes and it explains the origins of the wishing star. If Star is the the wishing star, than that means its evangeline and its Neverland. Magnifico is a mix of many Disney villains. Are they connected to Magnifico? Also that Magnifico is the magic mirror. Asha has become a fairy godmother and as time goes on there were more fairies (blue fairy, fairy godmother, fairy student from Disney princess adventure) also the live action movies are also connected with Enchanted because of that well. Is only Andalasia the portal to the real world or also other places like Rosas? And that book spell who wrote it? Chernabog, Horned king, Hades, Zhan Tiri? We see in the lego set a skull there. Is that a hint of who the author of the book is? Wish is the Prequel to the whole DCU (Disney cinematic universe) This movie may be bad but its interesting how it connects every Disney movie/show/game not just with Easter egg but with the plot and some details.

They paint Asha as a hero, but she only cares about granting a wish for his 100-year-old grandfather Sabino. For what? Making music to inspire? He didn't have to wish for that. He could have worked hard for that his whole life. I think we are missing something here, regarding theories. Sabino wears red and gold, has a beard, and has this hold on Asha in order for his wish to be granted. What if he did this on purpose to make Asha overthrow Magnifico, so to set her up to eventually fail and give him power? What if Sabino is the real villain? Not only that, what if Asha's grandfather is really dead, and this Sabino is a dark sorcerer in disguise? What if it's Jafar? Remember, he did disguise as an old man to lure Aladdin to the Cave of Wonders. He could have misled Asha and Magnifico, bringing out the worst in both of them, giving him the advantage to soon take control through Rosas' potential chaos. And this could be him traveling through time, so to make one person abuse wishes and unleash the Chernabog. Plus, his instrument might as well be his snake staff under a spell to fool the public.

@vassiliapolychronaki163110 ай бұрын
They aren't. Jennifer Lien and Chris Buck have said that these references are just Easter Eggs/tributes/homages/nods to the other movies and nothing more really. It is just another Pixar theory really, and people from Pixar have already rejected that one. If Disney choose to include Wish in an upcoming Kingdom Hearts game, avoiding any interconnections with other movie worlds is considered crucial (fans were already upset about the impact that Wish would have on Kingdom Hearts even though the games are set in an alternate continuity).

Better story idea with much better plot twist: Asha wants to release the Wishes so every wish is granted And the Audience is shown how evil the Sorcerer is. But then it's revealed that Asha is the Daughter of the Sorcerer, and it's just in her rebellious phase and the Sorcerer isn't evil at all. 😅 But oh snap, the Wishes are released, and even the bad ones, causing the Kingdom to fall into chaos. And Asha need to use the Master Wishing Star to undo all the Wishes.

I don’t think EVERY single villain would have found Magnifico’s book let alone needed or made use of it. Claude Frollo, in his twisted way, wouldn’t have used it because of his self-praised religious beliefs in God. So whether or not he was good, he wouldn’t have needed it. Scar is an animal who likely would not have known how to read any human language, so he’s out too. Then there King Candy who’s nothing more than bits of data in a modern-world video game. So yeah, Magnifico’s book doesn’t really apply to all the villains, but it’s still a pretty strong root for all the others
@kristinahuchison251111 ай бұрын
Same for Governor Ratcliffe, Shen Yu, Mother Gothel, or Bill Sykes, villains that don’t have powers and rely on positions of power or manipulation to achieve their goals. Legit all Gothel wanted was to stay young and beautiful forever, what makes her a perfect villain is how narcissistic and abusive she is towards Rapunzel and anyone who threatens to take her “flower” away. Rapunzel would’ve remained permanently trapped with her if Flynn hadn’t found her, let alone helped her see how her mother didn’t actually love her
@Magic3Star9 ай бұрын
@@kristinahuchison2511 So this kinda begs the question: "How did all the other likely villains get their hands on the book after the events of 'Wish?' " A couple ideas I have in mind revolves around whether or not Queen Amaya remained a good person like in the official film. If things had taken place as they did and the movie with Amaya ruling over Rosas in peace, there's a likely chance that the book may have been put away for safe keeping and remained forgotten to history until someone with curious/evil intentions finally found it and stole it for themselves. But if Queen Amaya was evil and had conspired with King Magnifico (and this is a completely original idea) like the concept art said they were supposed to, my guess is that after Asha and her friends defeated them, Queen Amaya took her mirror-captured husband, retrieved the forbidden book, and fled Rosas to who-knows-where. I even remember reading "Mirror, Mirror: A Twisted Tale" where the Evil Queen origins with her sister, Snow White's mother, revolved around how she first found the Magic Mirror and the Book of Spells she read the Poison Apple from. If this was a true connection, maybe this did happen as I have said, or maybe the Evil Queen might be a descendant of Queen Amaya. Perhaps even a protege. What do you think?

I doubt this is the origin, this is more how the magic in Disney works, the green magic is the Halloween energy, the witches powers, the yellow light is the star light, the same light that the wizards follow on Christmas. Walt was a big fan of Halloween and Christmas. The green light source is Chernabog, he played with the souls of wizards and witches, the ones that used green magic. According with Facilier, he can see that shadows, that were the shadows that played with green magic and were consume by that power. Therefore Magnifico isn't the mirror, he is another prisoner of the green magic, like the same happen with Horned King with The Black cauldron. Those souls are the same that Chernabog played on Fantasia at The Bald Mpuntain. In the series Gravity Falls the kids celebrate Summerween Ironic that day is the same that Chernabog rised in the mountain, the night of Saint John, or the real Halloween. The good wizards follow the power of stars, like magician Mickey on Fantasia. Even Magnifico was at that side, his clothes has a lot of stars, but unlike Merlin, The king was consume by greed and power. Similar to Maleficent a fairy turned into a witch.

I do not think that Magnifico is actually the villain. He got valid points, and i think Asha's actions have dire consequences for the Kingdom
@vassiliapolychronaki163111 ай бұрын
Asha did nothing wrong. The argument she presented to the king was entirely reasonable and he punished her and her entire family just because she asked a question, by refusing to grant any of her family's wishes (not just the supposedly dangerous one) which he also kept for himself. Punishing entire families for the actions of one member is common practice for the worst monarchs and dictators both on the far left and far right political spectrum. Asha made a wish which was initially answered with bright light (not what she asked for but whatever) and this alone triggered Magnifico to turn to the dark side for no actual threat. Yes, I know he was traumatised because his homeland was destroyed, possibly with magic but seriously? That book was supposed to be for emergencies only. and in the Queen's opinion it should not even be used for that because the effects are irreversible. Imagine if presidents pressed the red button to release nuclear weapons on a knee-jerk reaction. Asha was also justified to want to take the wishes of her family back since they had zero chance of being granted. How did Magnifico punish her? By destroying her mother's wish (which was a piece of her soul) even though her mother had no part in this. And his entire villain song is about how he likes being praised for his benevolence when he forces other people to volunteer to help or donate their personal items, for which he gets full credit. And no, Magnifico did not really have any valid points other than originally doing what he does in order to prevent another disaster happening and create the perfect utopia. But he was wrong about taking away people's energies in order to turn them into obedient subjects with fragmented souls (a scenario similar to dystopian works of fiction such as Equilibrium, Brave New World and the Giver), he was not returning wishes that he did not wish to grant and he was only branding wishes as dangerous based on his own personal interpretation. Asha's grandfather only wished to write a song that would inspire young people. Magnifico had to put a negative spin on it by arguing that it might inspire violence and a revolution against him. If his point is valid, then we might as well cancel any movies, plays, poems, novels, operas, anime, videogames etc because they MIGHT inspire people to act unlawfully and be political agitators. It doesn't actually sound like a valid point at all. And the only wrong decision in the movie was his decision to resort to forbidden magic just because he felt that his authority was threatened, which did almost destroy the kingdom and everyone in it. This had very little to do with Asha; he had that book there for a reason from the start and for all we know he might have subconsciously been attracted to it and looking for an opportunity to use it.

@vassiliapolychronaki1631 what punishment? Oh, right, being barred from any chance at winning the wish lottery. Oh no, such a horrible terrible punishment, I despise having my wrist slapped. Wait, crushed wish? you mean after being corrupted by the book? The book is the true villain of the story. The film also does a TERRIBLE job of establishing his institution of wish hoarding as actually particularly harmful or dystopian. You give him a "wish", but...nearly everyone just gives him their first career choice? Not a desire to have their dead child brought back? Only one person gives up an "impossible" wish? Imo there is something DEEPLY WRONG with these people long before they gave him their wish, to where its low key shocking that the place seems to be prosperous with the subtlest of subtle hints they MIGHT have an economic crisis in, say, 50 years after magnifico dies. Sure theres simon, aka a SLEEPY EXPY, making him a one off fluke. All they had to do was include the actual villainy of the scrapped content...

Theirs no evil twist, it's obvious from the first 10 minute ms to end that the true villan is the main girl, and that she caused every thing, even the fall of the king, who by the way was in the right with how he judged wich wishes were granted, for vagueness is dangerous, and those type of wishes shouldn't come true for Hou dangerous they can be, once you realize this, wich should not to long into watching fish, it us actually a interesting plot, cause the main villisn is oblivious and in denial about her own actions the whole movie, and is wrongful granted power to grant wishes at end of movie

Wish's quality and story is meta commentary. People wished for a good movie with a big baddie like Maleficent or Ursula who despite them being villain we all would die to hang out with, truly charming protagonists and supporting cast. We got the exact opposite, this wish was taken away from us, we'd be better off if we could just completely forget about our wishes and expectations towards Disney, so if once in a lifetime they(or another film studio) surprizes us with SOMETHING GOOD we can be happy again

I have a Disney/DreamWorks crossover theory. It's a stretch, but hear me out. Assuming the theory in this video is true, maybe after Magnifico got trapped in the mirror, and Amaya became the Evil Queen, maybe lord Farquaad somehow overthrew Amaya, AKA the Evil Queen, took over Rosas, kept the magic mirror, and after taking over Rosas, renamed it Duloc. Because in the first Shrek film Farquaad had the magic mirror. Maybe all the fairytale creatures in the shrek films are a result of people's wishes. If Star was able to make Asha's goat Valentino talk, the same thing could've happened to Shrek's Donkey.

So, my comment isn’t about this video (I haven’t seen wish, but this video made me want to watch it) but when I was watching it I thought “you know, based on her videos, I’ll bet abitfrank would love this new anime that’s out this fall anime season”. It’s called The Apothecary Diaries, it’s set in the Ming era of China, its historical fiction, it’s also kind of a Mystery (with a bit of romance mixed in) anime, but the protag is such a great character, she’s an amazing apothecary, super smart and observant, and she solves mysteries, but the best part about her is her personality and attitude, she takes no guff (even though women are not treated great because of the era and country)but she’s smart and aware enough to catch some attention from bad and good people. It’s one of my favorites this season and is unlike a lot of anime, you should def check it out, I think a lot of people (even people who aren’t into anime) would like this anime.

As good as this sounds, you have to squint and ignore everything else for it to work. Had they shown hints that Amalia wanted the throne and magic for her own, and Magnifico using the citizens' wishes to gain more power, then yes; as it is, Magnifico is a tragic hero whose only error was being paranoid and was betrayed by his wife. The film simply used established tropes of the company and filled with references.

There were lots of elements to Magnifico's character that reminded me of Tony Jay's iconic villain that still gives me nightmares. And it wasn't just his being a fellow "self-righteous hypocrite" of a silver fox either. I will neither praise nor berate Wish since it turned out to be everything I expected and nothing more. 2023 has been a very bad year for Disney in terms of releasing (well done) tributes to past movies (Making a stink eye at the live action remakes here, especially The Little Mermaid.) and/or quality original content on our movie screens. Wish is just simply the best of a bad batch and like other box office bombs before it, it will fade into obscurity sooner than most think. (see Chicken Little, Home on the Range, and strangely enough Treasure Planet, Atlantis and Brother Bear, all sound movie projects but not shown widely since they performed poorly at the box office).

I saw Wish, I saw ALL of the Wishes including the crushed ones RETURN to people whom are so selfish for demanding more. Not just GOOD wishes returning, the BAD wishes are returning as well! That act will created more bad people as you can see many villains, many selfish people, and angry mobs in all fairy-tale stories. From what I read stories about granting a wish, many people forgot why there are rules about granting a wish for a reason... Wishes are actually two faces of a coin, it can either go to the right way or go to the wrong way. That's why Vague ones are actually dangerous because nobody predict which actions will lead to in the future - especially what kind of their desires and dreams capable of changing based on their emotions and thoughts. Wishes are coming from their heart, more like their soul, right? Wishes are based on their desires, right? If they suddenly remembered their desires.... I wouldn't be surprised if Fairy Godmother Asha realized too late the fact Bad Wishes do exist in the fairy tale world. I actually wonder how many years it will take for Fairy Godmother Asha to approach Magic Mirror Magnifico.... It would be very fun to watch the Magic Mirror said "I Told You So!" to Fairy Godmother because of that single reckless action that starts all those familiar old fairy tale stories. One Pebble tossed in the lake. Once the first domino is toppled, it begins a chain reaction that travels down the line, or rather several lines. Just like a firing neuron, the pulse of falling dominoes is an all-or-nothing event.
