Back in 1983, we would be here right now because of a Russian lieutenant colonel, Stanislav Petrov, who stopped a Russian response to what Russia thought was a launch by the US. It was just a reflection of a flash in the US that Russian sensors picked up. He was giving awards around the world for peace. I'm not saying I'm for Russia, but if it comes to the final minute, hopefully, somebody stops it. Because once they launch, those missiles are gone; you cannot return them or stop them.

👍 Ditto for Vasili Arkhipov, second captain/flotilla commodore aboard sub, who refused to give third & last consent to launch nukes during Cuban Missile Crisis.

Russia invaded Ukraine bc nato has been inching closer and closer to russia for 20 years and russia kept warning to stop. Once ukraine started talking to nato it was russias breaking point. Pretty much forced his hand

So why would Trump being friendly with Putin be a bad thing?
@Truth-DiesКүн бұрын
Because he would allow Putin to walk over the U.S allies.

@@Truth-Dies Sorry but thats just implausible in so many ways. Why would Putin want to attack anyone else? He just wants some land back in Ukraine. And he knows if he attacks 1 ally that everyone else in Europe will step in. He doesn't want nuclear war he just wants land in Ukraine which used to be part of the Soviet Union.

I hope it cools off, but Putin has said the same thing for years. You guys are in the UK (I think); my friend who retired from the USAF and was involved in their nuclear weapons mentioned something to me. Russia does have nuclear weapons in Kaliningrad, which might be the most chilling for Europe. If they launch weapons from there, it would only take around 30 seconds for them to reach the UK.

9:47 The ‘no further east’ was re: former GDR, during re-unification talks. Why would Eastern Europe even enter discussion when USSR & Warsaw Pact still existed? IIRC, RUS leaders later tacitly approved former satellite nations joining NATO. 10:13 Donbas (large area in eastern UKR) is not a deliberate buffer zone. Simply where many RUS lived prior to independence & USSR collapse. Essentially contested region since 2014.

The amount of ignorance regarding Russia's political system in this video is painful. Russia is for all intensive purposes, a democracy. It has elections and political parties. It's just that Putin is very good at staying in power. Good and bad that comes with it. Putin may look like it but he is not the final decision maker in a lot of things. He still has the interests of those under him. A country as large as Russia is a complex web and intrigue. Both military and civilian. Whether you like him or not, Putin is a ruthless politician to be able to keep the Russian machine running for so long.
